hi, austin. (34 hrs after we left our lodging in Botswana. three flights and two layovers later.)

we made it back to the US. a couple photos from our final days.

i’ll save you the million photos and videos i took on today’s safari ride. two more days and four more trips to go.

i know “sinners” is a movie. but i can’t stop laughing. i think most sabbatarians would say “sinners” sponsor the super bowl every year. 😂🤣😂

first game in the books. 1-0 win w/ a left footed goal from Kenzie!

kenz was informed they’ll have no subs in her first game. (she’s guest playing on a higher level team.) tack on she’ll have a second game an hour later it’s safe to say she’s in for a very long and exhausting day.

my dog ran to the front door hopping in excitement when he saw me grab my cigarettes ….

last weekend was our final soccer free weekend for the next few months. already on saturday kenz gets to guest play with another team and effectively play in back to back games 😳 glad she spent the winter break running her butt off!

Visiting widows and orphans in their affliction is true religion. The president's action means foster kids are cut off from the medical aid they need and we have promised them. As a pastor and former foster parent, this enrages me.

On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, every one should the unspeakable horror of that Holocaust. And those of who still believe these words should say them: Never Again.

my typo is excellent. i’m leaving it.

neighbor: “hey you’re sliming up!” me: “thanks i’m stress smoking and eating one meal a day.” (not really i just said “thanks)

meeting went well enough. got the business done. made some laughs.

called the 157th meeting of the south texas presbytery to order last night. now watching my son play video games in the hotel. promised his mom he won’t stay up too late.

This new populism is wild

most relationships are better defined by how disagreements are handled than depth of agreement

watched our family year recap. tough to watch a few hundred pictures with one side of the family missing because of their own decisions. don’t think the kids noticed. but we’re still dealing with the results.

merry christmas, y’all.

a similar post is doing numbers on the other site for theological reasons. maybe over here we can all more casually enjoy beautiful art. 🤣

time to listen to in the bleak midwinter as many times as possible before christmas morning.

three hours of soccer with the kids in two days. my legs feel absolutely terrible. 😂

some more thoughts on Wicked. while an excellent movie it’s worth stating i think it’s too long. the problem is pacing wasn’t really a problem. neither was there a glut pointless scenes. went back over it with Alaina and we could only think of maybe 5-8 minutes of time that could be removed.

finally took the family to see wicked. fantastic film. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are absolutely amazing. I still don’t think their voices are the best pairing. I haven’t exactly appreciated their media interviews. But the actual acting and singing in the movie? Sheesh they are both phenomenal.

today’s breakfast: one cup of coffee, one slice of bacon, one cigarette. everything in moderation.

am i the only person bothered by the fact they pronounce “New Orleans” like fifty different ways in this song? open.spotify.com/track/4tCdoX...

pete gets to take communion for the first time tomorrow. thankfully i’m off communion distribution duties this month. get to be in the aisle with the little guy during service.

anytime i decide to fix something in the house i have to weigh the inconvenience of it being broken against the inconvenience of whatever is going to break the moment i fix the original problem.
