It's a road map to eventual fascism. Immiserate the population in service of capital, until the fascists swoop in and offer easy solutions. We're seeing this in the US right now. Canada has a chance to avoid a similar fate, but not through austerity.

Germans did not “ignore it.” There is a very rich history of German opposition to Nazism ranging from peaceful resistance and disobedience through to armed resistance. In just one example, there were at least 40 plots to kill Hitler by Germans. Please stop this historic revisionism.
