Also holy shit the Mariners Pride Month video is SO good

“Good teams both spend and develop. The Nationals do neither.” For anyone thinking the turning point of the Nats “rebuild” is around the corner, think again.

The Nats game last night was peak “how can you not be romantic about baseball?” experience: -Keibert’s family seeing him for the first time professionally -Hassell’s debut, first hit, first run, first stolen base, & game winning run -10th inning walkoff vs. division rival www.mlb.com/gameday/7778...

What in the world, CJ?

3 runs on 14(?!) hits, Orioles? I mean, thanks, but damn.

The Nasim Nuñez Game

Good 4D chess by Tena mishandling that grounder to make Mountcastle run on the hurt leg… lol jk the Nats are just real bad.

There is a new billboard in Carolina Beach, NC that says “Tariffs are taxes on American families.” Its sponsor: the Government of Canada. The situation in America is so dire, one of our biggest allies is taking out ads to try to save us (and them as a result) from ourselves.

Now that it’s over - the Nationals have had 18 losing streaks of at least seven games. Davey Martinez has been manager for nine of them.

Laz Diaz backing up my theory of “if you know the umpire’s name, it’s probably bc he’s bad.” Good lord, that “ball 1” to James Wood…

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ref go to the on-field screen and uphold the call. Especially in favor of Everton. That was a fun one.

Very impressive start by our old pal Erick. Good for him.

Well, that was unexpected.

Baseball is a fun sport.

Sims just threw one to the backstop during warmups. Coolcoolcool.

Hello, beautiful. It’s been too long.

I abandoned that other audiobook service last year for Libro.fm and have been absolutely thrilled with it. Highly recommend.

Check out how the anchors of CBS Evening News ended their broadcast tonight:

Show me one GIF from Star Trek that perfectly embodies your aura

A defensive masterclass involving the Rockies and Nats is not something I had on my bingo card.

Classy move by the Buccos honoring Carp there.

Part of the reason the Continental Army was able to rally back from that terrible winter at Valley Forge was that George Washington ordered that the soldiers should be inoculated against smallpox.

I have found myself really thinking about missing Bob Carpenter next year. I watch a lot of baseball broadcasts and most are nails on a chalkboard. Bob isn’t always as insightful as I’d like, but his voice and presence is perfect. It’s gonna be hard to adjust to not hearing his voice every night.

I have recently been reading books and watching series about some of the greatest achievements and failures in modern history. Chernobyl disaster, US space program’s successes and failures, and unbelievable human loss and hubris of Vietnam War. In a weird way, I am finding comfort in these. 🧵

Watching baseball @jonbois.bsky.social

Kiké is so much smaller than James Wood it is absurd.

What a damn comeback by Houston. Holy moly.

John Patterson in the booth, so here’s this 10 years ago throwback at the Newseum. One of my favorite Nats experiences.

CJ has the look of "can someone else do _something_?!"

God this was more savage than I intended but #noregertz

John Lannan is one of the all-time former Nats greats
