What you see is what you get... Trump and the new predator America - this is an interesting (if chilling) analysis by the Financial Times, of the new perspective from the Whitehouse. www.ft.com/content/1511...

Sometimes, a great rant is just so satisfying! Enjoyed this one...

Everything is bigger in Australia! Remember this all you guys on the US West Coast - you're looking at the Gulf of Australia! (image credit - Politic@l Spinner)

Who would have believed we would one day see a Stalinist style purge in the US... And all the while the MAGA cult lapping it up, cheeering it on, & thinking it's all about saving them money... They're still well & truly in the FA stage of FAFO - it's going to be a VERY rough ride!

What is most repellant about the MAGA attitude to the Ukraine is that they don't see the war as a battle of right against wrong - a battle for justice - but as a golden opportunity for windfall profit by scavenging from the carcass of the invaded country. This alone makes Trump unfit to lead.

Here is an interesting analysis, from an EU perspective, of what might now happen in Europe following the speech by JD Vance realigning US interests with those of Russia. The possibilities range all the way up to catastrophic! landsbergis.com/china-could-...

If you have seen JD Vance's speech to European leaders, here is a fact checking analysis by the Guardian on some of the specific points he raised regarding freedom of speech and expression. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

X today: lots of support for Trump siding with Russia & North Korea on Ukraine. Also, calls to send (commie!) Libs to Guantanamo... And a 'patriot' offers to build gallows & a guillotine in Washington DC - for free! Why? So Trump can get rid of treasonous dissenters! The world has gone mad.

Massive tax cuts ahead for Trump's billionaire friends - while ordinary citizens will lose services and tighten their belts: www.crfb.org/blogs/trump-...

A memorable quote from a victim of fascism;

On X Musk says the left is a "kleptocracy" Yes! Man with 400 billion dollars accuses ordinary folk of taking money that doesn't belong to them... That's right! You guys on social security & medicaid are depriving the mega rich - now getting by on 1-2 billion per month in governemnt subsidies...

Thought experiment: If it takes 400 ICE agents all day to arrest 1 "illegal" immigrant - how much will it cost to deport a million of them?

Want to stay up to date on legal challenges to Trump's executive orders? Here you can track the various court proceedings in progress: www.justsecurity.org/107087/track...

Over on X, & cheered on by his followers, Musk is trying to make a case that the USAID protests are an "insurrection" But much as MAGA might like to blur the distinction, there is a clear dividing line between the death & destruction of insurrection - & the exercise of free speech in legal protest.

Who's in charge, what's happening, and is it legal? An insightful overview of Musk's current impact on US affairs. Another longish read, but worth a few minutes of your time.

So, Trump's tax breaks for the rich will need to be paid for... And guess who will be targeted to do the heavy lifting?

I'm a long term supporter of a two state solution between Palestine & Israel, & always took for granted the fundamental division. So, this information was a surprise. It seems 'Semites' are defined by language & ethnicity, in Israel - most Jews are not Semites by race - but by religious definition:

A well written and very British perspective of Donald Trump. londondaily.com/british-writ...

A lot of folk on the "other" site arguing DEI programs are unnecessary - they assume selection is fair & anyone can "rise through the system & reach the top on merit alone..." But we all know that stagnation is a thing. And in a stagnant pond - it's always the scum that routinely rises to the top.

"Capitalism in the ‘developed world’ has primarily become an engine for redistributing wealth upwards..." A line that caught my eye in this excellent analysis of what Trump 2.0 means for the world. It's a long read - but insightful and rewarding. www.opendemocracy.net/en/trump-sec...

Remember that pesky "Project 25" that Trump knew nothing about? The one that the GOP tried to distance themselves from , because, let's face it - it's a vote killer? Well, it's back! truthout.org/articles/doj...

Wondering what POTUS is up to? Well, take a look - things are moving fast in MAGA land! Some of these executive orders are challenging the constitution and bound to make lawyers even richer... www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Following Trump's well-deserved dressing down by the Bishop, today I learned that according to Ingraham and other GOP media, Christians with normal Christian values are now perceived as "radicals" in Trump's new fascist American utopia... Historically we've been here before. It didn't end well.

The war on truth - and all forms of dissent, is brought to you by the "free speech", "anti-censorship" fascist book burners at Trump's project 25.

How long do you suppose Trump can maintain his populist support if he goes ahead with his plan (in leaked budget papers today) to tax poor & middle income earners $2 trillion more per year - to finance tax reduction for billionaires? The same poor folk will be paying for his tariffs too.

Over on X they're running a poll asking if Putin is a good, or a bad man... Overwhelmingly, they are singing his praises - & the whole propaganda piece has been reposted 1000 times. The fact that Putin murders his opponents doesn't seem to matter.

A slew of executive orders from Trump today as promised on day 1 of his presidency. Some of these orders will be contested in court since they have constitutional implications. Some interesting discussion here: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...
