This would be a good time for EU countries to: abandon NATO in favor of a European defense strategy not implicated with US geopolitics; develop a military production complex with in-built ethical control over the arms trade; and adopt a popular defense model beyond Cold War professionalization.

Yes, we should rearm in Europe. But no, that does not mean endorsing the model of privatised arms manufacture by opaque international capital. Yes, we should pursue some form of degrowth. But no, that does not mean cheering for a market crash and immiseration. All this should be a little obvious.

Every time the economy dips, there’s always a smart critic saying, “Isn’t that what degrowth want, eh?” No, it’s not. It’s not about crashing the economy in the extractivist framework, which only brings misery. It’s about reframing the objectives of economics away from productivist tunnel vision.

Nefasto.

For a shrewd leftist politician, this epoch should be a golden opportunity: the neoliberal trade order is collapsing, right-wing parties are rapidly discrediting themselves, and the trans-Atlantic military axis is falling apart. What better time to push for a radical overhaul of the world system?

The abject weakness, i.e. silence, with which Kaja Kallas is approaching events in Palestine is making Josep Borrell look like a titan of virtuous diplomacy. And he wasn’t, clearly, it’s mostly just the lack of any spine by Kallas.

Are we truly reaching such epistemic decay that we can't tell apart illegitimate uses of the same mechanism from its correct application? Invasion and defensive use of arms are not the same. Arbitrary lawfare vs activists is not the same as the judiciary sentencing fascists on evidence. Wtf?

A constant refrain in South Europe progressive media: bellicose sentiments rising in Europe! Dictionary: “Bellicose describes an attitude that hopes for actual war.” Nobody hopes for this. There is nothing bellicose about clamoring for defense when surrounded by heavily armed expansionist powers.

What if Trump is secretly a degrowth communist?

Bestest deal ever by the amazingest negotiator: Russia's sanctions lifted+access to SWIFT+green light on grain & fertilizer exports. Bonus: continued devastation in Ukraine. Super bonus: European farmers left to compete with dirt cheap Russian goods, so destabilization of the EU market in the future

Summary of geopolitics debate in Spain today: Socialists: Defense means military spending. Conservatives: Defense means YOU ARE A TRAITOR SANCHEZ OUT!!! Welfare communists: Defense means social policy spending. Fascists: Defense means deporting Muslims. Catalan left: It’s complicated. Not great.

Pirated libraries are the main source of open research material for precarious scholars all over the world. They're not the problem. Silicon valley corporations pilfering the internet are the problem. But the implication is we should restrict the former and not the latter? Nonsense.

In the actual world, not in the world we would like to be, I see three options: defend yourself, have somebody else defend you, or imagine you are beyond attack. Parts of the left hate the second and refuse the first; so what remains? In fact, Option 3 just reverts to Option 2 but under occupation.

The EU *was* a peace project based on trade and security externalised on the US. If the EU takes back control of its security, it cannot remain as before; it must become a new project with a strong political dimension. Otherwise, bulking military spending without changing the model = nonsense.

The current shambolism of EU diplomacy, internal and foreign, is difficult to swallow. A defence plan without a political project, and formulated in a way to alienate 50% of Europeans. Inability to react to war crimes and genocide. No vision, minimal ambition. Things are not going well right now.

This is an extremely weak and even cowardly statement given the circumstances. Who broke the ceasefire? And whose civilians are being massacred? If the EU wants to rearm, it must show much better judgment in international affairs and much stronger will to support justice over cynicism.

FINALLY have given birth to this entity doi.org/10.1177/2053...

It would be a mistake to believe that the storm will pass us.

Good morning with good news: Spain is pushing fossil fuel (FF) generation off its grid. FF peaked at 66% in 2006 & plunged to 23% in 2024! FF was 41% in 2019, 37% in 2022 and 28% in 2023. Spanish decarbonization is mostly wind & solar. They skyrocketed from 7% in 2006 to 43 % in 2024! #energysky

We're stuck in Gaslighting World, and this ride is called the Conditional Ceasefire Carousel. It goes around in circles and it's kinda deadly.

This is the way. The legal system isn’t just there to repress activists who throw soup on encased artworks; instead, it should repress the far right seeking to usurp power and dismantle every institutional gain from the last decade.

We all understand what and how. We even understand why. The attention economy is extensively researched and a prominent research topic for a long time. We all know how platforms and algorithms work, too. But instead of uttering the unspeakable, we defer with the cry, “More information!”

Always insightful work from Higgins. Still, this reminds me of standard problems in discourse analysis: lack of regard for material structure of the media sphere and its relations to economic and cultural capital. We are not just lost in disordered discourse; we are also lost in oligarchy capitalism
