😭

And these 2 PhD students are ready to go, the 3 other scientists are cranking and we love them 🥺♥️, but we NEED more support! From volunteers, to org support, we’re calling on the scientific community! JOIN US! SEE YOU IN DC Y’ALL 🫡 @standupforscience.bsky.social

2 PhD students recently met at a conference & Trump's slashing of research & science bound them With only 3 other scientists they started a movement that's growing around the country On March 7 in Washington DC, and state capitals, "Stand Up for Science" will take place All details below & bravo!

The next step in trying to dismantle Infectious Diseases research - dismantle @niaidnews.bsky.social - should surprise no one that this a R-led proposal. An unmitigated disaster for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of pathogens that affect everyone in the US www.congress.gov/bill/119th-c...

I am a part-time bartender in Chapel Hill, NC, and anecdotally, everyone science / science-adjacent knows what Bluesky is and EVERYONE (every. single. person) not in science has no idea How do we get all these scientists’ perspectives & all these science reporting pieces out to the public?!?

I was awarded the NSF GRFP as a senior in undergrad, and it directly enabled me to pursue a PhD. Whether it's just due to uncertainty, the thought that this program could be at risk is deeply disheartening. GRFP isn’t just funding—it’s an investment in the future of science.

Fuck. Normally we’d hear back sometime in March, I think? Since many applicants factor it into grad school decisions & those are due in mid-April.

For this GRFP cycle, I spent HOURS editing and providing feedback on 25+ of these applications and was FLOORED by the talent and passion seeping off the pages of every single one! Please show up, show out, and join us for #standupforscience2025 @standupforscience.bsky.social !

😬 c’mon y’all!

The crash is beginning in academia.

i'm losing my mind

(speaking for myself, the lack of institutional support has probably been the most frustrating thing for me)

Scientists are called on more and more to respond to questions about their results. We tried to put down some ideas for the best ways to do that based on our years of observing these interactions. Engaging is better than not, especially when science is under attack. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Super pumped for this series by the talented @pattersonhabitat.bsky.social ! Bridging science & society one piece at a time 🏗️

It’s widely known that the field of human genetics was founded on racist ideals. 🛑 In this opinion piece, GeneBites writer Zach Patterson (@pattersonhabitat.bsky.social) explains how “humane genomics education” in K-12 📚 can help counter racist biases and beliefs early in our exposure to science 🤝

@standupforscience.bsky.social WE ARE OUT HERE!!! Coming to SacTown 12-4pm on the west side of the state Capitol! RSVP here: www.eventbrite.com/e/stand-up-f... #standupforscience

I DO NOT PLAY ABT MY TEAM.

It's my book birthday! I am beyond excited that this day is here and that I can finally share Where Biology Ends and Bias Begins: Lessons on Belonging from Our DNA with all of you! In addition to reading, I'd love if you came to one of my upcoming author events: www.shoumitadasgupta.com/events-1

I am so sorry Washington DC, but you’ll be hearing from me for awhile 😭 www.aibs.org/news/2025/25...

Upon learning that yesterday would be my last day as a program officer at the National Science Foundation, I shared this parting message with my colleagues. The next few months will be frenetic and stressful for them. Here are some things that you can do to help them with the mission ahead. (1)

A week ago, I was a grad student in the lab, wondering how to make a difference amid a wave of executive orders. Now, I’m still in the lab—but I’ve found an incredible community of scientists, students, and advocates ready to take action & make their voice heard ☀️

Scientists are now organizing events, called Stand Up for Science, on 7 March in Washington, D.C., and state capitals. So far, they have attracted more than 100 volunteers from some 30 states who are hoping to rally support for research as a public good. scim.ag/4328LAD

I fear it is time for me to be earnest on social media. We've had several complaints about how holding the protest on a Friday means fewer people will be able to attend. I understand that for some people this is quite true (e.g., ER docs). But if we don't put our science down for a day...
