"Fascism is again rising in America, this time calling itself “MAGA.” This is a short read and worth your time . . . . hartmannreport.com/p/we-crushed...

This is the site the Trumpettes have established at the Dept of Ed to bitch and snitch on folk who are woke: enddei.ed.gov I think all good Americans should flood the site with your suggestions for Herr Drumpf, Musk-olini and his band of Hilter youth. I'm sure they will appreciate your suggestions!

A good laugh at bad reporting: there's a "secret" group opposing Herr Drumpf & the Billionaire Boys Club! A "secret" group that posts globally on Zuckerberg's platform of piffle & twaddle!?! Here's a starter kit for the secret group! But shhhhhh! It's a secret ..... bsky.app/starter-pack...

Language shapes reality. If meaning is determined by use then those who control discourse effectively control how reality is perceived. RESIST!

A weekslong Israeli military operation across several West Bank cities has displaced roughly 40,000 Palestinians from their homes, in what historians and researchers say is the biggest displacement of civilians in the territory since the Arab-Israeli war of 1967. nyti.ms/3QkUV4P

For the past 18 months, the Anti-Defamation League has been calling out people who criticise Israel, accusing them of antisemitism. Yet they're willing to give Elon Musk the benefit of the doubt over his nazi salute. That's not 'a bit of grace'. that's a revealing double-standard

Only two professions are happy about Herr Drumpf's return to Washington. Cartoonists and the other, the oldest . . . .

OK my British friends may need to help me out here. The Beatles introducing Peter Sellers imitating Olivier's Richard III reciting A Hard Day's Night!?!?! What is this from!?! www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIjq...

"If you wish to persuade ... that because Adam ate an apple, all who have never heard of this will be roasted in everlasting fire, you must catch them young, make them stupid by means of drink or drugs & carefully isolate them from all contact with books or companions capable of making them think."

Another excellent score off the cheap carts . . . .

Most of you who follow me know me. So you already know that it's not all high brow . . . .

I do love the archive! archive.org When something triggers your interest in a classic, they have the Loeb editions ....

Just setting expectations .... 😎

This is a fascinating read that draws parallels with Greco-roman literature. It's about time we started applying some reason to the myth of Christian origins. Mark Goodacre @goodacre.bsky.social has an excellent discussion with the author on his podcast. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BePJ...

Our friend Jan's been taking pics again. I'm sure I'm not the only one who could use something to inspire them this morning. (Jupiter and the Pleiades) Thank you Jan! @janberanek.bsky.social

Those little purple hammerheads (Tradescantia pallida)that I rescued from my dad's at Thanksgiving have done well in the dead of winter . . . .

Such an excellent read .... With some surprising parallels with our present moment. And despite my beliefs, or the lack there of, I like good writers who can put to good use the tropes religion provides.

If I found an author I liked, I'd read all of their books. To make up for that swerve, I've been mining the SF Masterworks list for awhile now. Some excellent reads! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SF_Mast... Just started this one:

This is an interesting read. Some saw where we were heading the last time our world became enamored of fascist ideologies and strong men. Stapledon was so spot on that I found myself repeatedly checking the date of authorship ....

I suspect that the migration away from Facebook will accelerate today . . . .

We're slated for between 4 and 6 inches tonight in D.C.; I hope they're right!
