Trump literally nuking American scientific and medical research is a bit of a political conundrum: I'm positive it's INCREDIBLY unpopular, but it's also both hard to get people to notice and hard to convey the sheer scale of the damage

😥

Safe to say @pizzacakecomic.bsky.social has this right.

Kilmar Abrego Gaecia went from “administrative error” to “illegal alien engaged in human trafficking for MS-13” in just a few probing questions. You’re next.

This is why we have due process; because random people speculating about things is a terrible way to run a government. Without due process, we're all just vigilantes. At its core, that's what this is about. Due process and the rule of law. Everything else is window dressing.

im sorry to be so divisive and partisan but i dont think the government should be inventing a criminal history out of thin air to justify sending someone to a concentration camp in a foreign country

Knowing that things are going to get worse for everyone but not knowing when new horrible things will occur or what shape they’ll take is really bad for our health

Okay I’m increasingly convinced at least some of the people sent to CECOT are either dead or permanently lost in the system

“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.” Diary of Anne Frank January 13, 1943

Every now and then it hits me that this isn’t just about 1 inhuman act or another, but a bigger picture. That the entire democratic experiment in America is falling apart in front of our eyes. It’s historic in that sense. Which then makes me wonder why all media stories aren’t framed this way.

So Van Hollen managed to meet with El Salvador's Vice President, and his honest answer to the question "why are you holding this man if neither your nor my government has evidence that he is MS-13" was "because America is paying us to hold him there?" Do I have that right?

These are both one-sided reports, so caution is warranted. But now there are two reports, a week apart, of U.S. lawyers stopped at the border in which border agents wanted access to their phones. (1) 4/7/25 freep.com/story/news/l... (2) 4/15/25 nbcnewyork.com/news/nationa...

We’re not living through a “wow this is a bad administration” moment. It’s a “there may not be another administration” moment. It’s not just politics.

BREAKING: We've filed a lawsuit with @ccrjustice.org and @nipnlg.bsky.social for the U.S. government to secure the release of Mr. Edicson David Quintero Chacón from El Salvador's notorious mega-prison CECOT. The 28-year-old father of two is being illegally detained at CECOT with no due process.

Pro-lifers will say aborting a fetus is murder but letting your child die of measles is god’s will

Van Hollen says that he asked the VP of El Salvador why his government continues to hold Abrego Garcia even though he’s not charged with any crime and there’s no evidence that he’s MS-13. “His answer was that the Trump administration is paying the government of El Salvador to keep him at CECOT”

I just met with the Vice President of El Salvador as we fight for the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. I’m speaking to the press now with the latest on our efforts. Tune in here:

Marco Rubio says that Americans living in Europe shouldn't ever have to face any ramifications for their political speech online. The chutzpah is jaw-dropping, as he is PERSONALLY trying to deport legal immigrants for their political speech in the United States.

This is so spot-on! I worry that if (big if!) they bring back Garcia the left will "declare victory" and stop paying attention... while Romero and hundreds more are left to rot, and more continue to be sent to CECOT without due process

Something has changed. People are fired up and ready to stop the chaos and cruelty. Keep it up.

🚨BREAKING: Judge finds flying migrants to El Salvador after orders not to "demonstrate a willful disregard for its Order, sufficient for the Court to conclude that probable cause exists to find the Government in criminal contempt." Visit www.democracydocket.com for full details and analysis.

NASA Announces Bold Plan To Still Exist By 2045

I’M GOING TO KEEP POSTING THIS STORY UNTIL ANDRY IS FREED: Gay Venezuelan makeup artist sent to Salvadoran prison after a disgraced cop's report Andry Hernandez Romero sought shelter in the U.S. because he was persecuted as a gay man, one of the "particular social groups" allowed to claim asylum.

60 Minutes could find no criminal records for 75% of the Venezuelans the U.S. sent to a notorious mega-prison in El Salvador. https://cbsn.ws/4clubLP

Shocking that an aspiring autocrat given near total immunity by the Supreme Court is now exercising that immunity to undermine the Supreme Court and democracy altogether. Honestly who could have see this coming??🤔

Lots of signs that tourism business in the US is absolutely cratering. International tourism is only part of that. But just remarkable that you see Secretary of State saying stuff like this.

it sucks that evil is real

The regime calls immigrants criminals because of who they are, not what they’ve done. Their crime is their existence in this white man’s country. The Garcia case is an example par excellence. Liberals should take this angle and push for true and impartial law and order.

“It’s amazing that others in this room underwrote electing a man who, in the last week, single-handedly destroyed all of American science. It’s amazing how much good science you can destroy with $320 million and RFK Jr, very fast.” — Seth Rogen’s censored remarks presenting the Breakthrough Prize

Without due process, this could be you. It could be me. It could be any or all of us. It doesn’t matter who you voted for. Or the color of your skin. You must understand what is truly at stake here. All tyranny needs to thrive is for people of good conscience to remain silent.

When American citizens have to worry about returning to their own country from travel abroad, you ain’t living in a free republic.

Even if you (wrongly) believe that some immigrants lack due process rights, what’s to stop the government from claiming that *you* are an undocumented immigrant; removing you to El Salvador; citing an “administrative error”; and refusing to do anything to bring you back? The answer is due process.

I understand what Judge Xinis is doing. She is building a factual record so that that record will be crystal clear when this case gets back to the Supreme Court. But I also know it is taking too long. Two weeks is too long. Keep in mind Bukele will just kill Garcia at the last moment if he has to.

This is something we can all do.👇🏼 File a complaint with the FL and DC Bar to have Pam Bondi disbarred for not complying with the 9-0 Supreme Court ruling to return Mr. Garcia from El Salvador.

The Trump administration is working to overturn a 90-year-old Supreme Court decision known as Humphrey's Executor, which serves as the backbone of agencies’ authority to operate without direct control from the White House. Here's what you should know. www.democracydocket.com/analysis/tru...

"After nearly five hours, he and his wife were released. They are now pursuing legal action. "It's not about the immigrants," his sister, told NBC10 Boston. "It's coming to us Americans, and it's going to go after all of us." www.nbcboston.com/news/politic...

I can't emphasize enough that the most important thing journalists can do right now is publish exactly this kind of article

I was just cc-ed on an email where a Nobel prize winner and green card holder who's spent a lot of time in the US says he cannot risk coming back at this point for a visit. And I cannot blame him for this decision. We are witnessing absolute mad king behavior.
