"It is precisely these mid-life adults who feel the most economically insecure. They have mortgages to worry about, children to provide for, and greater financial pressures" 🗣️ 18.5 million potential voters feel economically insecure. @profjanegreen.bsky.social: www.lbc.co.uk/opinion/view...

Some thoughts from me on our new report for @jrf-uk.bsky.social today: www.lbc.co.uk/opinion/view...

100 years on from Joseph Rowntree’s death, there is a growing sense that we are, or need to be, entering a period of transition even greater than that seen in Rowntree’s time. As a social change Foundation, it is time to put all our wealth in service to shaping and speeding up that transition.

"We are taught that the British welfare state was invented after WWII. It wasn’t. It was built piece by piece over decades through the work of pioneers like Joseph Rowntree" 🗣️ @paulkissack.bsky.social reflects on Rowntree's legacy: www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/opinion...

More people than ever are falling below an adequate standard of living. The latest Households Below Minimum Income Standard (MIS) report by CRSP at @lborouniversity.bsky.social reveals a stark reality 🔽 1/4

Inflation is up by 3%, but private rents are up by 8.7% across the UK and 11%(!!!) in London. Across GB, it means paying ~£100 more per month on average since Jan 24, or ~£200 more per month since Jan 23. In London, £220 more per month since Jan 24, or ~£400(!) more per month since Jan 23.

Inflation has picked up once again with rising food prices playing a role. 📉 But the biggest worry for low-income families is the unrelenting living standards storm they're facing, which is not forecast to improve over the course of this Parliament. 1/4

The Chancellor's speech today barely mentioned the people that make up the economy. She started her speech saying that it's about pounds in people's pockets. But with 14.3 million people in poverty, including 4.3 million children, too many don't have the £'s that will help grow the economy.

Health chapter in UK Poverty, out today, is a grim read. Life expectancy in the most deprived areas in England has never been lower, since reporting began in 2011. Comparing the 10% most and least deprived areas in England - Females live on average 8 years less - Men live on average 10 years less
