Four covers featuring one character John Carter of Mars Marvel style

Yes!

The Golden Voyage of Sinbad was the third and final Sinbad movie with effects from the master, Ray Harryhausen. Adapted by Len Wein with art from George Tuska and Vinnie Colletta. Cover art for Worlds Unknown issue seven by John Romita and issue eight by Gil Kane and Romita.

Lin Carter’s “Thongor and the Wizard of Lemuria” by Steve Gerber with wonderfully moody art by Vincente Alcazar. Cover by Gil Kane.

Gil Kane and Jim Steranko covers from Marvel’s Gullivar Jones of Mars, an adaptation of “Lieut. Gullivar Jones: His Vacation” that ran through six issues of Creatures on the Loose. The original story by Edwin Lester Arnold was published in 1905.

The premiere issue of DC’s Beowulf from 1975, written by Michael Uslan with art by Ricardo Villamonte

Robert E. Howard’s Skulls in the Stars featuring Solomon Kane, originally published in Weird Tales from 1929. Roy Thomas and Ralph Reese’s adaptation in Marvel’s Monsters Unleashed from 1973.

John Carter locked in battle with a green Martian by the late, great Reed Crandall.

House Republicans just voted to gut Medicaid, which covers 1 in 5 Americans overall, including 41% of births and 63% of nursing home care. They also just voted to gut SNAP, on which 41 million food insecure Americans rely. This won’t just harm people. This will kill people. They own this.

If you’ve got Shudder, Property and Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person are two recent additions you should check out, the former from Brazil and the latter from France. Very different films but strong thematics and solid performances in both.

I smiled through tears that night.

First watch for Judgement in Nuremberg today. A deft screenplay with wonderful direction by Stanley Kramer. A great cast top billed by Spenser Tracy and Burt Lancaster but Judy Garland and especially Montgomery Clift absolutely own their roles Goes without saying how timely a film it is right now.

Reporter: If you could speak directly to Elon Musk, what would you say? Rep. Jasmine Crockett: Fuck off.

Drop something silver

Among its many references to romantic comedies, Heart Eyes shows a bit of His Girl Friday. Tonight’s second movie is a first watch with Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell from 1940. Directed by Howard Hawkes.

Starting the evening off early with a first watch of Five Element Ninjas.

Age yourself with a movie you saw in theaters.

In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

Post surgery pain up a little tonight. Needed something to help me relax. I needed more than a movie. I needed a hero. I needed MacGruber.

Still haven’t been able to catch the Superman trailer in the theater.

Son’s off to college next year. He’s pretty busy with music, swim has ended and tennis season just started. The chance to go to the movies together right now is a blessing. Had a good time with Heart Eyes today.

My son is doing his Senior research paper on how films reflect the time and culture in which they’re made. First film we watched for research was Gojira/Godzilla. Next up is Platoon as part of how Hollywood in the 80s dealt with the scars of Vietnam on the national conscience.

What’s in your current reading stack? All the Birds in the Sky is wonderful and deserves all the accolades it has received. Finishing up Doc Savage: The King Maker Metamorphosis Odyssey is my favorite Starlin work. Just getting started with Bloodstone. Also Elia Kazan: A Biography

#LastFourWatched @letterboxd.social Next up is a first watch for Eggers’ Nosferatu. Doing the extended cut, basically because it’s only four minutes.

A lifetime

So we got a three month trial to Apple+ because we bought something or some such. Starting the evening off with The Gorge. Have a relaxing Friday night, y’all. Let’s go.

Nosferatu drops on Peacock today. Wanted to see it in the theater but didn’t happen. Going to be a good night to break out the Flavacol and coconut oil and do some popping.

They’re going to sell off our national lands. This is prep work.

Hey, you all wanna see the page from this Krypto comic that has been making me get weepy eyed all day?
