Again recommending Oligarchy in America by Luke Winslow as a way to understand the moment we are in. Broadly, the rich view the progress of the last 140ish years as an aberration that needs rectifying. The New Deal especially but even going back to the Pendleton Act.

Nah, Friday night was rookie shit. Thursday night was the best strat. You’d hit it up the store on Thursday nights for the best selections and keep it for Friday after school. Nothing like knowing you had a stack of new releases waiting at home to get you through the day.

On February 20, 1975, Elizabeth Cash Green, aged 112, a few months shy of her 113th birthday, died in Helena, Arkansas. A Black woman, she was born in Georgia in 1862 and was the last person born into slavery in America to die. Just 50 years. Not a lifetime ago. History is not far removed from now.
