After an initial review of Trump’s new Executive Order on elections, I have a few major takeaways👇:

NEW! Sworn declarations filed last night confirm the Trump admin sent INNOCENT people to rot in prison El Salvador, including a professional soccer player jailed and tortured by the Maduro regime, who entered this country LEGALLY to seek asylum, and who has NO CRIMINAL RECORD in either country.

If a Democratic president presided over an 8% market drop in his first 75 days in office the entire front page of every major newspaper would be full of stories about how bad Democrats are for the economy

Politics hasn't been this simple in a long time: do you think it's good for one man to exercise unchecked, arbitrary power or not. Those are the two available ideologies right now

It's clear Chuck Schumer is not cut out to lead the senate Democrats. There needs to be a vote of no confidence and he needs to be replaced with someone willing to fight. Trump and Elon are dismantling democracy while Schumer whines and capitulates.

The GOP spending bill that Schumer is supporting will devastate DC. This is a choice he made.

The institutional Democratic Party is guided by an almost pathological level of conflict avoidance in almost every direction. “What can we do to make the least number of people mad?” is just a bankrupt way to operate.

AOC: It is almost unthinkable why Senate Democrats would vote to to hand the few pieces of leverage that we have away for free when we've been sent here to protect social security, protect medicaid, and protect medicare.

Huge high five to everyone who called your senators about this.

What Elon claims DOGE saved taxpayers: $105 billion The funding DOGE has actually cancelled: $8.6 billion How much money Elon Musk would pay in taxes under the Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act: $9.3 billion Elon isn’t saving taxpayers anything.

One thing I see a lot - people tend to conflate “the GOP blocked this thing” with “this thing wasn’t actually popular with Dems outside the progressive left”. A lot of stuff the GOP “blocked” under Obama is stuff that either a) we removed their ability to stop, or b) things we didn’t do on our own.

Figure skating world championships were considered to be for men only until 1902, when Madge Syers showed up and took home silver and the ISU went "whooooops guess we need to segregate them." It happened again in 1992 Olympic skeet shooting: Zhang Shan took gold and then they segregated the event.

This week, the Washington Post backed out of a “Fire Elon Musk” advertising order that was to run as a wrap on some of its Tuesday editions, according to the advocacy group Common Cause.  The group said it signed a $115,000 agreement.

This is the guy people thought should have done the halftime show over Kendrick Lamar?

“Sources told CNN the officials did not seem to know this agency oversees America’s nuclear weapons.” 🫣 www.cnn.com/2025/02/14/c...

screenshot so as not to pick on this guy but it is amazing the extent to which people have constructed a myth of McConnell procedural obstructionism that never existed

CNN: Do you think that calling Elon Musk "a dick" is effective messaging? Rep. Robert Garcia: "Well, he is a dick." I approve this message. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Here's Looking At You, Kids Captain Elon's teen-aged incels aren't the usual suspects, but out of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, they walked into the Treasury Building. Is this the beginning of a beautiful friendship? Only if Don plays it again in 2028. by Maureen Dowd

Fire Elon Musk. Use every legislative, judicial, and public pressure tactic at our disposal until we get it done.

Mexicans won’t be the only ones paying for these tariffs, Americans will too. These tariffs will hurt local border economies like San Diego, hurt U.S. manufacturers, and drive up costs and inflation for consumers – all WITHOUT addressing the fentanyl crisis.

"finding common ground" with kleptocrats and fascists is like trying to forge a deep emotional bond with a running chainsaw

in a nod to his most devout supporters, donald trump signs executive order making it a felony for mom to take away the xbox after you call her a bitch

If a Democrat fired 100 FAA employees and put a freeze on hiring air traffic controllers 8 days before an airport plane crash, there would be a right-wing and media frenzy for weeks.

Trump shut off Medicaid & was forced to turn it back on. But he'll keep pushing his order to shut off federal programs. He wants to take meals from seniors, pre-K from kids, & jobs from veterans. All so he can give billionaires a tax break. We must unite to stop Trump.

Trump doesn’t have the law on his side. What he has is power. Historically speaking, when the “rule of law” comes up against raw power and a dictator willing to use it, the rule of law always loses.

Dems can: -oppose all Trump nominees until this EO is withdrawn -deny unanimous consent to slow senate proceedings -vote no on all cloture -force quorum calls at every chance It’s a constitutional crisis. There is absolutely no reason the Senate should be connecting business as usual.

sam’s thread helps clarify something for me, which is the underlying theory behind trump’s action. trump does not see himself as a president in a system of shared authority, he sees himself as sovereign, with unchecked authority over everything.

If you want to fix all of this, go protest outside a Republican Rep or Senators office. As long as half the government is firmly on board with the idea that Trump can do whatever he wants, then he can. Go find your nearest Republican and ask them if they think the President is a King.

“The thing is what it does” is quote I want to remember.

SHARE WIDELY. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important - for both citizens and non-citizens - to know your rights. You have the right to remain silent. Assert it. You have the right to a lawyer. Ask for one. (1/3)

Hoooooooly shit. Whoever got the shot of LaPorta pulling in that catch is going to be a fucking legend. #OnePride
