Our #Saguaro is around 13 feet tall, and this bloom is at the top. It's been a good season for birds in our yard, particularly the Starlings. We've never seen this many before and the #cactus blooms are staying around longer, too! #nature #photography #spring

One of our Gila Woodpeckers yesterday in our mesquite tree. There are nests in the saguaro right next to the tree - both Starlings and the #Woodpecker are neighbors in Casa de Cactus Apartments. The second photo the Gila got all "What chu talkin' about, Willis"? #birding #nature #photography

Another one from the Riparian Preserve last week. I spotted the Great Heron from way off (white feathers against a dark background). I didn't even notice the two Cormorants until the one raised its head. #birding #nature #photography #water

Took my big bro to the Gilbert Riparian Preserve last week and got lucky enough to see the elusive Arizona Crane and a Curved-Billed Thrasher. The Trasher has a very cool song, but not an uncommon bird in this area of Arizona.

The geology at Watson Lake, AZ: The Dells are composed of Precambrian granite, estimated to be around 1.4 billion years old. This granite was originally formed deep underground, at depths of 1–2 miles (1.6–3.2 km). Over time, the overlying rocks eroded away, exposing the granite to the surface.

A Ring-necked Duck from the Riparian Preserve last weekend. **Several hundred thousand congregate each fall on certain lakes in Minnesota to feed on wild rice. **The oldest known Ring-necked Duck was a male and at least 20 years, 5 months old. #nature #birding #photography #duck #water
