All you wanted to know about chromosome segregation in Staphylococcus aureus and were afraid to ask - check our new preprint! A great collaboration with Xindan WangĀ“s lab! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

This katydid from Ecuador has been affectionately named by photographers "candy-cane katydid". The truth is... we are not sure which species it is. One possibility is a Harroweria nymph, but until someone witnesses the transformation into the adult stage it will remain a mystery.

And then there are the ancillary consequences - a constrained pipeline of new talent, and much of the best talent diverted to other professions and away from health research and public service where we really need great minds who are motivated to serve the common good.

It looks like 8/8 study sections that were scheduled to begin today have been cancelled: www.csr.nih.gov/RevPanelsAnd...

Very important to get this word out!

this website from the House Democrats on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee is surveying the impact of the Administrationā€™s mass firings of federal employees from science agenciesā€”share with friends you know have been affected

I have it from multiple sources that this is not coming from NIH or even HHS, but from the White House, most likely OMB and Vought.

Plaintiffsā€™ response in the NIH IDC case regarding defendantā€™s motion is up. You can see they do not mince words about the irreparable harm to the public and to researchers that will ensue www.courtlistener.com/docket/69625...

Bacterial Virulence study section was cancelled this morning. The email was sent 2 hours before the meeting start time. I feel terrible for the investigators šŸ˜”

Wow, I loved hearing her perspective. Super refreshing!

Want to go visit the national parks this year? Sorry. The reservation system is shut down, EMT personnel are gone, so don't get hurt or lost. No one can clean the bathrooms or cabins, so they'll be closed. Rangers are fired. www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti...

ā€œLab Girlā€ being censored is baffling. Iā€™ve read this wonderful work; nothing offensive in it whatsoever ā€” unless showing that women can be scientists is no longer ā€œappropriate contentā€ for children?? Everyone go buy a copy in protest. My 2016 review in NaturešŸ‘‡ www.nature.com/articles/532...

I still don't think it's sunk in to many that after February 20th, there ain't no study sections.

Great overview of the extent of what tax-payer funded NOAA provides as a public good and how replicating its extensive services and capacity would be massively difficult, far less reliable, and less trustworthy if left to the private sector. šŸ§Ŗ šŸ“ˆ šŸ›Ÿ policysky polisky sociology

ā€œScience is in danger,ā€ she says, citing falls in the funding, trust and societal priority it receives. ā€œWe are completely forgetting the reason science is there ā€” and that it is something that needs to be cherished and protected.ā€ www.ft.com/content/d632...
