As this thread lacks the obligatory outrage, it probably won't get the consideration it deserves.

The debate around care visas in the political space boils down to people saying stuff like this - we desperately need people. It's a good soundbite but... A significant surge in care visas were issued since 2020 in response to sector demand and yet the problem of shortage has persisted. Why?

We haven't had any politicians with intellectual curiosity since Blair and Brown. No, this is not a ringing endorsement of everything Blair did, but every Prime Minister since Brown has been devoid of political skill, courage, vision, and ideas.

This is what Roy Jenkins had to say about immigration on 8th November 1966, when he was Home Secretary. Not only an economic case; but "To live apart, for a person, a city or a country, is to lead a life of declining intellectual stimulation."

Labour has a whopping great majority and four years left to turn this country around. They should be setting the agenda, not chasing about trying to placate voters of a party with five MPs who will never vote for them anyway. It's not only disappointing... it's embarrassing

This is brilliant- it quite literally takes less than a minute to do and puts pressure on Labour to do the right thing.

Has anyone senior in Labour considered telling people Reform is wrong? And why they are wrong. And what a threat they are to the NHS, to national security? That Farage seeks divide us, *he* is the threat to our institutions? Anyone? Anyone got *any confidence* in who they are at all? It's pathetic

Someone should tell all the far-right numbskulls waving flags around that VE Day is meant to be about celebrating the defeat of people like them.

Not sure I can think of a more perfect comeuppance for Farage, the Tories and their dismal Brexit, than Trump’s America propelling us into a far better, safer and more prosperous deal with the EU. It would be laugh-out-loud funny. Please make it so. www.adambienkov.co.uk/p/the-trump-...

šŸ”“ These two charts expose Nigel Farage’s immigration myths The Reform leader’s campaign is based on blatant, provable falsehoods šŸ‘‡

Britain has one of most difficult voter registration processes, report finds UK system makes it a ā€˜real outlier’ among liberal democracies, according to study examining 62 countries www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Labour Party spokesperson responds to FT report that Kemi Badenoch, as trade secretary, offered the same reciprocal arrangements to India in trade talks:

LibDem MP Max Wilkinson makes an important Point of Order, "A Reform UK social media account digitally manipulated those comments to give the appearance that I had described Nigel Farage using a four letter expletive" "This is misinformation, it is fake news, this is Trumpian tactics"

this is very awkward for Kemi Badenoch

TANK vs TESLA "We've crushed fascism before and we'll crush it again" - WW2 veteran Ken, 98, in the tank

Incredible

I need you lads to understand that Europe has an average birth rate of about 1.4 No charismatic politician bothered to tell you how fucked that makes us. But as we get older, we need more care, more GP appointments… Without immigration we will have no pensions very quick.

He’s right. Journalists should also be pointing this out.

Here's how Labour should do it. "Take on Farage, expose the contradictions in his thin policy offer and deploy the ammunition provided by the long overdue scrutiny his party will receive now it has responsibility as well as power."

An absolute masterclass in how the UK media platforms and normalises far right politics. This is how Farage wins.

Fed up of the media giving a certain party that shall not be named too much air time? Annoyed at the constant attack and biased coverage on the government? It is time for major changes to how we regulate our media! petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

1510 signatures are now required by Thursday We can do this Petition: Commission a public inquiry into the impact of the UK exiting the European Union petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

Stop it @lewisgoodall.com - when will you give as much space and column inches to the Lib Dem’s, the Greens- both of whom have MORE Councillors then Reform! Just stop giving Farage and his ilk the amount coverage they crave but do NOT merit! That coverage is a large part of the problem!

Isn’t it about time journalists and other politicians started holding Farage to account. He can’t take scrutiny. He would soon fall apart.

Next week Farage will wrap himself in a Union Jack to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. He will do so despite being best mates with German Nazis. No-one in the broadcast media will call him out on this.

Well said. As we only seem to value people who are "economically active" (horrible term), so many contributions are overlooked. And many of the uncosted activities have far more value to communities than millionaires who syphon their money abroad and avoid taxes.

When will @lewisgoodall.com realise that he is part of the problem in relentlessly focussing on Farage and Reform and repeatedly ignoring the relentless progress made by the LibDems? podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/t...

The Greens now have more councillors, on more councils, than ever before...! šŸ‘ join.greenparty.org.uk?utm_source=A...

After by-election and local election losses PM Keir Starmer says he will go ā€œfurther and faster on the changeā€. NO. Must change policies. People concerned about poverty, winter fuel payment cut, high water/energy bills, profiteering, disability cuts, poor infrastructure. Must end Tory policies.

Good take on Labour's Catch 22šŸ‘‡ "Historically, the Labour party has united socially liberal middle classes & socially conservative working classes around a shared economic agenda. But when people begin to lose faith in the ability of that economic model to deliver a better standard of living...

18 year old George on #C4News, "Hearing the discussions today I don't think the UK is strong enough by itself to talk tough against President Trump" "Personally I think we'd be much stronger with a Customs Union, a Single Market, even the entire EU"

Shad Home Sec Philp worries that agreeing high food standards with the EU will compromise our ability to negotiate lower food standards with the US, even though he would never want lower food standards. Except for word salad, which seems to be liberally imported from the US. ~AA

Good.

Reform bot attacks on tactical voting are designed to confuse people Because they know tactical voting is what will keep Reform out The bot’s key message is that people won’t vote Labour But that’s the point about tactical voting In many places the vote is Libdem or Green

This petition deserves a lot more publicity. Please share it. Given its aim of growing the UK economy, we think the Government needs to quantify the effects of Brexit as soon as possible by setting up an inquiry. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

At this juncture I’d like to point out: * we’re on the brink of a golden age of medical healing * there’s enough money in the world to solve every problem in the world * a united approach could stop the climate crisis But a small group of sociopaths seeking personal power are going to throw it away.

Democracy is under the most dangerous attack since WW2. Farage is part of that attack. That is why we must mobilise the maximum possible anti-Farage vote in the local elections. Every vote counts in the fight to defend democracy, freedom, and human rights from fascism. #Vote4Democracy

Farage has said Andrew Tate is an 'important voice' for men. The Tates face charges of rape, sex with a minor, people trafficking and money laundering. There is something deeply creepy about Farage. It's another very strong reason to #Vote4Democracy in the local elections.
