Happy Birthday to our ancestor Toni Morrison! So many of us would be lost without language she gave us. This giant of a storyteller & wordsmith & thinker we were privileged to briefly share the earth with.

"The pursuit of knowing was freedom to me, the right to declare your own curiosities and follow them through all manner of books. I was made for the library, not the classroom. The classroom was a jail of other people's interests. The library was open, unending, free." --Ta-Nehisi Coates #BHM

Teaching is one of the great loves of my life. Not because I like imparting knowledge to young people because...what do I know, really? I constantly stand corrected. But being able to be a young person's champion is really life giving. Happy VDay to those leading with love. #Edusky

This is not new news but it's becoming clearer every year. I guess nobody actually read 1984...or the Cliff's Notes or the Spark Notes.

Sometimes you get out of class so you walk your dog and you think about things way too hard so you get sad and once home you pet your dog on your couch in silence while still in deep thought until you both fall asleep in a comforting mutual cuddle and sure okay fine it is what it is whatever bed.

I think what's being done to trans people in this country is a FUCKING SCANDAL. It's absolutely an attempt at eradicating trans people from public life and ALL OF US must refuse this. Everyone. Stop being a loser mealy mouth person. This is bullshit. You should say so in all the places you inhabit.

People adapt to fascism. That's what you learn when you read history. And it's easy for those who are not its direct targets to do.

These young folks are Black history in the making. They stood up today and in their acceptance speech began with the words of Audre Lorde and ended with call and response reminding us that our liberation is bound to one another. Congratulations #yaaspa We celebrate you!!🎉🎉🎉

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has announced that it is arbitrarily dismissing student and parent complaints arising out of public schools’ documented acts of censorship and discrimination. Our response: Book bans are real. Full statement ➡️ www.ala.org/news/2025/01...

Suggestion: stop referring to public facing positions in education as being "in the trenches". Toni Morrison, Octavia Butler and others have taught us to imagine and then create. Also, some people actually are in places that are at war where there are trenches and lives are being lost.
