An inconvenient truth for #Labour: #NHS privatisation is entirely un-evidence based and the public has never agreed to it. All evidence is that #privatisation is: 1) more expensive for taxpayers, and 2) has worse outcomes for patients

Day 138. New, free & fair Parliamentary elections, and the release of the regime prisoners. We cannot stop in our national freedom struggle. Help us avoid costs by targeted sanctions, no handshakes with the regims, and calls for new elections. #GeorgiaProtests 📷 Giorgi Burjanadze

Trump says Harvard may lose ability to enroll foreign students Weaponizing government agencies to force compliance to a dictator is exactly what happens in Russia. So now we have IRS, DHS, DOJ, etc involved in attacking Harvard

Marco Rubio says that Americans living in Europe shouldn't ever have to face any ramifications for their political speech online. The chutzpah is jaw-dropping, as he is PERSONALLY trying to deport legal immigrants for their political speech in the United States.

Cautionary tale of trade tariffs. In 1815 UK Corn Laws imposed tariffs on import of grains. Price of wheat, barley, maize, oats soared. Higher food prices, social unrest. Farmers and landlords profiteered. No incentive to innovate or be efficient. 1846, law repealed. Any lessons learnt?

I tried to articulate something that I thought was missing from most assessments of Blue Origin's all-women stunt flight: that its message was profoundly sexist. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

“The Trump administration has said it is freezing more than $2bn (£1.5bn) in federal funds for Harvard University, hours after the elite college rejected a list of demands from the White House” Universities must fight to maintain their independence. www.bbc.com/news/art...

I understand looking for historical parallels when we’re at the stage of warning signs, but when the evil arrives the priority is to deal with what’s actually in front of you.

This is what they call a historic turning point “The independent forecaster Frontier Economics reckons that the impact of US tariffs will shrink UK GDP by 0.7%, while a deeper deal with the EU could instead lift GDP by 1.5%, despite US tariffs” www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

BBC v Rolling Stone coverage of fascism

Not enjoying the JD Vance piece on #r4today.. “There was a strong sense he sees Britain as something rather different from Europe, wasn’t there?” Of course. We’re much more desperate and exploitable on our own. Stop looking for a ‘special relationship’ in the fake flattery of ugly nationalists.

Since 1960, childhood mortality has dropped by a factor of five. A large portion of this is due to the benefits of vaccines.

It's a straightforward relationship: high #inequality leads to the triumph of the far right. It will keep winning until governments deliberately seek to make societies more equal. I'm looking at you, Keir Starmer. This week's column. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

As many people made their way to prayer on Palm Sunday, Russia launched rockets at #Sumy. It shows once again: Putin underscores with blood that he seeks not peace but destruction. In the heart of Europe, he continues to bomb civilians. We stand firmly with #Ukraine. @abaerbock.diplo.de

I just want to tip my hat to the crack team of White House economists who were able to discover--in just a few short days--that the U.S. is dependent on China for smartphones, computers and semiconductors.

Tulsi Gabbard voted in Hawaii last year after declaring under oath she was a Texas resident and claiming a homestead exemption there. This would appear to be (1) a fraud in her loan application, and (2) voter fraud in Hawaii, where she no longer resided.

🚨🚨 In another disgusting act following the authoritarian playbook (crushing any opposition) Trump fires Greenland Pituffik Base Commander Colonel Susannah Meyers basically for her speaking up against JD Vance's recent visit. www.politico.eu/article/us-m...

"Given that the US economy is entirely dependent on Chinese sources for vital goods (pharmaceutical stocks, cheap electronic chips, critical minerals) it's wildly reckless not to ensure alternate suppliers/adequate domestic production before cutting off trade" www.foreignaffairs.com/united-state...

Trump spokesperson says tariff on China goods is 145%, not 125%. How can any business plan? Trump is a cult leader. No evidence, analysis or rational debate needed for any policy. His followers love it. His word is the law, challengers silenced & exiled. Massive failure of education & democracy.

I stand corrected. As of last night’s executive order amendment they TRIPLED this rate so as of June 1, you as an individual in the US receiving a package from China will be paying fees of $150 *per item* or 90% of its value. So that $3 component you ordered? It’s a $153 component now Source:

UK “special relationship” with USA is obvs a mirage. How about we get a real one with our neighbours in EU? After all we are dependent on them for the food we eat

A Trump appointed judge rules that the @AP White House ban is unconstitutional.

Trump's tariffs are so cack-handed, vicious, petty and indefensible that they seem likely to have the effect of rapidly raising China's image as the wronged party in the fight. (We're ALL suffering from Trump, but his attitude to China is just insane. Plus at least SOMEONE is standing up to him.)

I’m losing my mind here. USTR made a list of “Unfair trade practices” they’re retaliating against, complaint number 5 is that the EU cares too much about stopping illegal deforestation, complaint number 7 is that the South Americans are doing too much illegal deforestation

'The “US trade deal that’s just out of reach” has been the great delusion of Britain’s political class for nearly a decade now.'

i am fascinated by the outright refusal of people in the professional political commentary class to just consider the possibility that there is no plan and that trump really is a braying idiot with the more acute case of narcissistic personality disorder on record

A United Nations investigation has concluded that Israel carried out "genocidal" acts in Gaza through the systematic destruction of sexual and reproductive healthcare facilities

TAPPER: The European Union don't take as much as American pork because they have issues w/ hormones used in pork. It's not an issue about tariffs BROOKE ROLLINS: No no no. This is really important. Here's the bottom line. They are using fake science & unsubstantiated claims to not take our products

What a difference between America's peaceful protests yesterday, and those who stormed the capitol building on 6th Jan 2021: "January 6, 2021, the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., was attacked" search.app/PoXRXZFBhvkc...

Protests aren’t the only tool in the anti-authoritarian toolkit, but they’re incredibly important. Protests help us see each other; they make it feel safer to refuse to obey the dictator, and make it more possible for us to organize mass non-cooperation. It’s an essential step in the process.
