Getting Started

Another impressive example of camouflage (crypsis). This stick grasshopper belongs to the genus Apioscelis. Photographed in the Vaupés rainforest #macrophotography #colombia

Here are 3 incredibly beautiful mantids that I saw last month. Toxodera fimbriata Paratoxodera meggitti Hymenopus coronatus

Two Colombian endemic species I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph: -Tityus columbianus (vulnerable species) -Agesander ruficornis #macrophotography #colombia #arthropods

Dermacentor variabilis "American Dog Tick" at left, Amblyomma americanum "Lone Star Tick" at right Both are male, I believe - neat to see them both on the same bit of grass 🤩 in situ, NE Oklahoma - fujifilm, Laowa 65mm, diffused flash

Treehoppers and ants exhibit a classic example of mutualism. As treehoppers feed on phloem sap, they excrete honeydew, which attracts ants. In return, the ants defend them from predators through aggressive behavior. The treehopper species is Membracis mimica #macrophotography #insects

Opiliones! Beautiful colors and patterns on this little creature. It was a very cooperative subject and gave me enough time to create a focus-stacked photo. #macrophotography

A beautiful example of camouflage (crypsis). Liturgusa maya, photographed in the Vaupés rainforest. #macrophotography #colombia

Stylized forms, shimmering textures, and vibrant greens, reds and purples. This Alydidae is truly a graceful and astonishing creature. I believe it belongs to the genus Stenocoris, though I prefer not to confirm it without certainty. Photographed in the Vaupés rainforest. #macrophotography

Hi BlueSky! Portrait of a grasshopper, approximately 9 cm in size. This creature patiently posed, giving me the necessary time to stack several images. I was so excited that I forgot to take a full-body shot... a big mistake if the goal is to identify the species. #macrophotography
