The only hope for higher ed is the academic labor movement. Join this @higheredlabor.bsky.social call next week to plan our fight us06web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...

as trade unionists we are often very cringe: wearing matching t shirts, calling each other siblings, singing songs about solidarity. cringe can yield power!

Tomorrow in DC we’re protesting DC Children’s Hospital for ending all care to trans people under 19 I would love to see my followers join me in protesting a move that’s already impacting folks very close to me If not now, when?

Is what’s going on too simple to see? By force, a white male power structure is in the process of seizing back control, and as ever they can’t hold onto power without subjugation and scapegoating and coercion and violence. That doesn’t really seem like chaos, it’s America like clockwork.

These executive orders are reckless and illegal. They hurt real students, real educators, and real communities. That’s why educator voices are so critical in this moment. Share your story at nea.org/share

I never want anyone to be pushed to the brink like so many of us have. Every trans person had survived to get here. I still remember the day I almost went over that edge. I will do whatever it takes so no one else ever has to feel what I did.

perplexed by this story on NPR this morning, the premise of which seems to be “imagine sending premarital Christmas cards!? These ladies told us what drives their strange desires to send holiday greetings even without a husband or children to justify such actions.” www.npr.org/2024/12/19/n...

i’m trans. reporting this story nearly killed me. had to stop drinking and wound up on many friends “call to see if she’s ok” lists. please share it. (i’m ok now that it is done.)

This should be said everywhere. Allowing discrimination like this against trans people undermines bedrock principles of constitutional rights across the board.

Graduate workers at the University of Pittsburgh voted overwhelmingly to unionize. Over 97% of Graduate Teaching Assistants, Teaching Fellows, Graduate Student Researchers, and Graduate Student Assistants voted to join the @steelworkers.bsky.social Tally: 1033 YES - 28 NO

pitt graduate workers won their union today by over 97%!!! feeling such pride in the workers who made this happen & so much hope for the positive impacts the new faculty, staff, and now grad unions will have on our city & county in days to come

Pitt Grad Union with a freakin' landslide. Over 97%! #PittBS

fellow cis folks: this is the reality for our trans friends. the violence is real, and your quiet pacifism in the face of it won’t make it stop. you need to get good at intervening. you need to recognize that simply your privilege of existing as a cis person can de-escalate violence and save lives.

Slotkin is overestimating the difference between the “faculty lounge” and the “assembly line.” I’ve worked for unions that bargained for bathroom access, lobbied for trans rights, and trained members on inclusive language. If you want to be a bigot, don’t pretend the working class hates with you.

just got an eggplant parm sandwich and a side of veggie risotto for $11, pittsburgh’s still got it
