I’ve been meeting with a student once a month all school year to give her feedback on one essay she’s been writing since we met. She’s not formally my student, but introduced herself after a reading. I’m reading the final draft of the essay now and I’m so proud of her I could cry.

I just got an email from a Canadian friend who is cancelling his solo show in NYC next month because he 1) doesn't want to contribute to the economy of an openly hostile state, and 2) he doesn't feel it's safe to travel to the US right now. He is right on both counts, and it's heartbreaking.
