12 USFS leases terminated per DOGE.gov/savings. Likely to sow confusion / fear, no addresses are shown. Just cities. But some cities have a single USFS facility, like the National Forests in Alabama Supervisor’s office in Montgomery. Are these test cases? Or is the “real” target in plain sight?

This does not bode well for U.S. Forest Service R&D, which employs a similar number of workers. Research has been engrained at the USFS since its start, when Chief Pinchot recruited Forest Rangers from Yale’s Forest School. The alternative was utter devastation of the land, absent applied science.

I’ve seen no confirmation of any guidance like this at the #ForestService, but a “word list” almost certainly exists. Web content has disappeared or been locked down agency wide. Forestry is a science of interconnectedness. It will be difficult to impossible to do the work absent the vocabulary.
