Mannequins at The Bay Rideau in Ottawa look so orderly in contrast to the shelves and racks which appear ransacked during the bankruptcy sale just days to closure. May 2025

ICYMI as I did. 🫥

Old lady willow looks like a floating island. She is enjoying an annual flood on the banks of the Ottawa River near Fitzroy.

Ex-Washington Post editorial cartoonist @anntelnaes.bsky.social, who quit her job because the paper killed her cartoon mocking billionaires - including Post owner Jeff Bezos - for bowing to Trump, just won the Pulitzer Prize.

Here's the Reuters work that won a #Pulitzer prize. The shocking ease of producing fentanyl.

Here's the ProPublica work that won the Pulitzer prize for Public Service for reports on deaths of pregnant women in abortion-restricted US states. "How Abortion Bans Lead to Preventable Deaths."

Congratulations to Moises Saman for winning the feature photography Pulitzer for this powerful essay www.newyorker.com/culture/phot...

Donald Trump Jr thinks Poilievre made a mistake by not campaigning on how it's a great idea for Trump to annex Canada and end the country's sovereignty 🥴

French Canadians refused to join the American Revolution 250 years ago, laying the foundations for Canada to become an independent country. Yesterday, they weighed in at another decisive moment in Canada’s history….

Good news. Https://ottawacitizen.com/news/how-bruce-fanjoy-somehow-beat-pierre-poilievre-in-carleton

I might not win our pool but I'll take it!

Given the literal definition of deportation is removing a foreigner or noncitizen from the country, we - journalists, media orgs - should probably all stop referring to the ‘deportation’ of a 2 year old US citizen. It’s NOT a deportation. I’m not sure what it is. A kidnapping?

America is now just the creepy guy in the club telling random women they’d be a lot happier if they were dating him

“It makes me want to scream,” the 74-year-old Nobel laureate told the Guardian. “Landmines do not stop an invasion. Landmines don’t influence the outcome of a war. All they do is mutilate or kill your own people. That’s why it blows my mind – it’s so stupid.” www.theguardian.com/world/2025/a...

If this happened in any country in the world, the strongest concerns would be expressed about human rights and democracy. This should be no exception.

A reminder, if it happened to slip anyone's mind, just in time for the Canadian federal election Monday 28 April. One more sleep (or maybe two if it's a close call).

'Outside St Peter's, Rome.' (1957) Edward Seago visited Rome three times in the 1950s. This watercolour is a worthy contender to some of John Singer Sargent's work. Both were influenced by the ancient grandeur and monumental architecture of the Italian capital.

A handbag belonging to Kristi Noem, the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, containing her passport, department security badge and $3,000 in cash was stolen on Sunday at a restaurant in Washington, the department confirmed.

Poilievre’s plan to deport residents under the pretense of hate crimes is not leadership. It’s dangerous politics www.thestar.com/opinion/cont... Find out more at nationalnewswatch.com

A keeper of a quote.

I wrote an article for @audubon.org about a gull I know, and it’s full of surprising facts about gulls in general. I hope you like it. www.audubon.org/magazine/bal...

Precarious Penguin paper #collage #tariffs

Wait. Is there a tariff on fish from Canada?

They’re eating the checks. They’re eating the balances.

A banana bonanza! #monkey

ICYMI as I did. More please.

The pandemic was more predictable than Trump.

I like the insider trading at the White House theory.
