Renaming the Gulf of Mexico in the way it happened is a violation of Federal Law that bypassed proper administrative procedures, such as public notice and comment which violates the APA (5 U.S.C. § 551 et seq.). NOAA and US Board on Geographic Names oversee naming conventions. An NGO should sue.
