The thing is the Free Press has been a hard right outfit from the very beginning. There's no stronger tell that you're hearing from someone looking down the Washington/Budapest/Moscow christian supremacist axis than "The West" in the title of a bunch of pieces. FP's in the beating heart of that.

An all-green wordle 6 is the most annoying way to start the day.

i have never seen a more relatable fifa story in my life

Fascinating, mesmerizing 📊

Remember that it's a central tenet of Movement Conservatism that their policies *cannot* fail, they can only *be* failed. They're never wrong, people were just insufficiently enthusiastic in implementing or embracing them. There's no "hell, that was a bad idea" coming from these people. Ever.

What’s wild is that none of these guys would say “happy to contribute to the greater good” if this was about raising their taxes 0.01% to pay for a universal free school lunch program, they just say it about the thing that doesn’t help anyone and is being done for no reason

The reality is that China can weather this better than the US can, and they know it. We don't know it, not at any level of power that matters, but it's still true.

I do not understand why Dems don’t start a daily press conference. What’s stopping them?

Well that's a refreshing bit of unreasonable optimism!

Hey folks just wait until Europe slaps a €1/user annual duty on X, Meta, Google, Netflix, Amazon, and on and on. The money's right there, they'd be fools not to.

Take care of your neighbors and friends, you're going to need community more than ever.

Please read this whole thread. "Startup quality people" is a particularly ominous aspect of this.

It's not new knowledge that they're going to strip mine the national parks, but the phrase "resource reserves" is still just bone-chilling.

The fundamental mendacity of everything they do is just impossible to overstate. Everything about this is 100% "I want to do the thing" and 0% "if the thing will work we should do it".

*incoherent screaming*

There's this perennial unsolved problem with the internet, the sack-of-meat problem: it's incredibly hard to definitively tie some event that happened online to a particular human - a specific sack of meat. Identities are easier, but also not exactly the same thing. Age verification could solve it.

Like I'm definitely joyriding the skyline right now

It's obviously joyriding, right?

Just so everybody understands, Booker has been speaking cogently about the issues the entire time and Strom Thurmond famously spent hours reading from the encyclopedia, because segregationists were and are dumbshits
