Even during challenging times, we must keep fighting for strong policies protecting nature. And now, more than ever, we need people like you to use your voice to speak up for nature! Learn how you can be an advocate for nature: www.nature.org/en-us/about-...

This new book makes clear that the reality of structural racism and the related poverty and inequality is not simply long-ago history, but continues to define present-day America. @calscherm.bsky.social

I always knew these folks were great vets. Now I know they’re great people, as well. God bless them!

Just delighted to see this particular person on Bluesky.

Can’t wait to read it! What a terrific collaboration!

Congratulations to the virus and bacteria communities on the confirmation of their longtime supporter and champion Robert F. Kennedy Jr as secretary of health and human services.

The Trump Administration’s targeted obliteration of scientific data is forcing life-saving information into the shadows as medical professionals scramble to save it: www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Well, this is a good time to live here

This is a really important— & surely not accidental— point! Largely because of the opportunities to rise via (yes) good *merit-based* Federal jobs, the DC area is home to a robust & thriving Black middle class. Its survival is now at risk. That is a deliberate form of racial violence.

Ah, yes. The Trump/Musk Administration’s signature combination of pettiness, malice, and implicit threat.

Oh, and he also just fired the Archivist of the United States (= head of the National Archives). www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-f...

The American Republic died on Jan. 20. We are now in salvage mode, trying to determine whether enough of its foundational structures can still be saved to approximate something like it in the future. #Trump

A moment of beauty for you today:

At morning meeting, Trump officials tell staff at the Office of Personnel Management to draw up plans to cut the agencies staff and programs by 70%, expected to disable federal retirement services programs, federal employee health benefits and more. federalnewsnetwork.com/management/2...

Shame on you, Harvard. A terrible, cowardly mistake by my alma mater. Regretting I’m not rich enough for them to take notice when I cut my annual gift, since awe at money & power seem to be their overriding values now. www.harvardmagazine.com/2025/01/harv...

He folded. 😊

Just deleted Google Maps from my apps.

A superb— and deeply moving — historical analysis by the great David W. Blight:

A rare & gorgeous iteration of winter….

Looks as though many of us will now not live as long as we had every reason until this week to suppose we would.

Well, at least now when Trump invades Greenland and Panama, we know it will be done incompetently. So there’s that. #Hedgseth

How did I miss #RedSquirrelAppreciationDay? Let’s keep the celebration going….
