"This decision by the VMI Board is not based on performance or character-it is purely political..." Read my and Governor Northam statement on BOV's decision not to extend superintendent Major General Cedric Wins’ contract VMI’s 15th Superintendent and the first Black superintendent:

Truly words to live by: “You have to wake up and have a purpose.”

With Kash Patel leading both the ATF & FBI, he oversees background checks for gun buyers AND gun crime investigations. The severity of gun violence in this country is in his hands. @gabbygiffords.bsky.social wrote a letter to urge him to meet with survivors & leave partisanship behind him 👇

I am so proud to be supporting former volunteer Abigail Spanberger to be our next governor! 👏

That's more completed petitions, for Charlottesville, Albemarle, Nelson and Goochland, to get @abigailspanberger.com on the ballot ✍️✍️✍️

I’m proud 10 of my bills are headed to the Governor - these legislation will create a family first economy, strengthen public schools, and build stronger communities!

I am so proud of our #BeSMART volunteers for partnering with the Insight Memory Care Center to launch “Dementia and Firearms: Navigating a Difficult Situation,” a video presentation for caregivers. @momsdemand.bsky.social www.insightmcc.org/webinars/dem...

As chair of the Public Safety - Firearms Subcommittee in the Virginia House of Delegates, I lead discussions on critical firearm-related legislation, aiming to balance public safety with constitutional rights.

A total of 11 of my bills have passed the General Assembly and are headed to the Governor's desk! These bills tackle major issues like gun violence prevention, affordable housing, education, good governance, and support for our veterans. I am proud to continue delivering results for HD-27!

As @rabbirickjacobs.bsky.social reminds us, our communities are built on belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion — and as we read in the book of Genesis, though our origins and experiences may differ, we are all alike in our humanity. www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4AZ...

It was an honor to sign the guest book in the home of Anne Frank. I was here as a younger man and thought about her life as a dark chapter of history. Today, I can’t help but think of her story as one of caution. Our world is fragile, and it’s incumbent on us not to break it.

Arlington @momsdemand.bsky.social donated games, snacks and other supplies to the Buckingham Youth Brigade for a new clubhouse housed in BU-GATA, a tenants’ rights organization. Hope they enjoy their new hangout!

This legislation ensures families have materials on recognizing and responding to warning signs, and on safe firearms storage, at a critical time. Grateful for the strong bipartisan support on these bills!

For our home, for our neighbors, for our town 🥀 #Crozet

I had the solemn honor of introducing a Memorial Resolution in memory of Demonté Lamont Tillery, a beloved Suffolk native, father, and friend, whose life was tragically cut short by gun violence in September 2024.

The UVA Board of Visitors has called a special meeting this Friday at 9:30am to discuss gender-affirming care. While they won’t be taking testimony, show up and make your presence known! bov.virginia.edu/meetings/febru… Contact the Board of Visitors: ☎️ 434-924-7081 📧 [email protected]

“Gun violence is not just a law enforcement issue, it’s not just a public safety issue, but it’s a public health crisis that impacts all of us." - @justcallmefoxy.bsky.social, Virginia @momsdemand.bsky.social chapter lead

A little rain couldn't keep Alexandria @momsdemand.bsky.social from walking in the George Washington Birthday Parade!

Black history is not just something to remember—it’s a call to action. Today, I shared my family's experience on the House floor, reminding us that the fight for justice demands recommitment to progress, accountability, and fierce love.

Senators on Wednesday will hear @kathykltran.bsky.social's HB2241, a bill to disarm criminals convicted of violent misdemeanor hate crimes. Currently only hate crime felons can be disarmed. This is especially important for families and temple communities like mine.

The Federal Executive Institute has trained generations of public servants right here in Charlottesville, strengthening leadership across government to better serve the American people. Eliminating it isn’t about saving taxpayer money—it’s about undermining expertise and good governance.

In my latest Substack, I examine Virginia Democrats' latest attempt to try banning guns on college campuses after the 2022 UVA shooting. open.substack.com/pub/justcall...

The VHSL is complying when 5+ of the EOs so far have been blocked in court, more are likely and VHSL’s own appeals process since 2014 specifically states trans student athletes allowed to compete have no competitive advantage. There are four trans student athletes out of 1.2M public school students.

If Trump cared about putting America’s kids first, he’d do literally anything to keep us safe from the #1 killer of our generation: GUNS.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of guns are trafficked from the U.S. to cartels due to lax enforcement. These same cartels flood fentanyl into American communities and drive violence in Mexico and Central America. To address overdose deaths and migration, we must stop the trafficking of guns.

A football game can't bring back the NOLA terror attack victims or change what happened. It's just a game. What it does do, on one of the world's biggest stages, is keep their memories alive and remind us of the survivors who are still hurting. #SuperBowlLIX

Y’all didn’t think we’d allow Kash Patel’s confirmation hearing to take place without Moms in the room? A Trump loyalist who is backed by gun extremist groups, Kash Patel as FBI director would be a clear and dangerous threat to the rule of law.

Me: "Gun violence is not just a law enforcement issue, it's not just a public safety issue, but it's a public health crisis that impacts all of us." @momsdemand.bsky.social

The president’s priority should be to build on the lifesaving progress made over the last four years, not boost profits for gun company CEOs. Any effort to repeal lifesaving measures will harm public safety and put our children at risk. That’s not what Americans voted for.

“Protect our kids” except when you don’t.

Every person has the fundamental right to access the health care they need without fear of discrimination, prejudice, or barriers to treatment that supports their mental, physical, and emotional well-being. https://www.katrinacallsen.com/news/statement-gender-affirming-care

ERPO laws, active in 21 states + DC, show promise in reducing suicide and mass violence risks. “This tool is designed to give people action in these times of crisis, to avoid these foreseeable harms from happening,” Center Law & Policy Advisor, Tim Carey told @whyy.org. whyy.org/articles/pen...

I've long believed that a Congressional Jewish Caucus will enhance our ability to advocate for the Jewish American community, so I'm honored to partner with my dear friends @repjerrynadler00.bsky.social and @repschneider.bsky.social in bringing together our colleagues to make this vision a reality.

Sarah Brady’s legacy is one of relentless courage. Her fight for gun safety transformed our nation—and @bradyunited.org carries forward her vision for an America free from gun violence.

More substantial risk orders are being filed every year in Virginia, and in nearly half our counties.

We can’t afford to wait. Today, I announced the formation of the Emergency Committee on Federal Workforce and Funding Reductions. This committee will work to understand the potential impacts on Virginians and find solutions that protect our communities. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

We have officially reached crossover and I am excited that the majority of my bills have passed the Senate and made it over to the House!

My latest Substack analyzes how Virginia's secure storage device tax credit is an annual crowd-pleaser in divided government.

🚨 Proud to announce that HB1700 has PASSED in the House! ✅ This bill ensures bleeding control kits are placed in every public school 🏫 and that at least two staff members are trained to use them.

I don't want to trigger anyone bc this used to be non-controversial in America before last week: Happy Black History Month!! “This is not the time to allow anyone to erase, rewrite, or distort our history, nor to deny or diminish the truth of our past…” Read my full statement👇

My new piece for @themeteor.bsky.social‬⁩: “Unlike the manosphere, which thrives online by feeding anger and fear, I’m advocating for real, face-to-face relationships that foster compassion and collaboration. The womansphere won’t just build ideas, but bonds.”

I'm glad to see that @marcussimon.com's bill expanding Virginia's swastika vandalism law to include private property and public places is sailing through with bipartisan support. With antisemitism on the march from all sides, this is one way to say "enough!" lis.virginia.gov/bill-details...
