It was easy for me to give up an Amazon Prime membership because we had moved to Alaska and it was just a normal shipping time.

If you want to be depressed about the state and future of LIS careers, take a gander at this. So many tech jobs with no interest in library work or professional ethics. We're devaluing our own field.

Just going to leave this here should it become useful to anyone…

I would say remotely competent historians understand that major events in history are historically shaped by men born into wealth and power and lots of them were idiots. (Caligula: psychopathic dumbass!)

Ackshually... "remotely competent" historians recognize how much of progress and "major events" (e.g. abolishment of slavery, civil rights, women's voting & reproductive rights) are the result of ordinary people organizing and relentlessly demanding their governments to form a more perfect union.

Business people do not know how to discuss value when it’s not tied to money or profits.

But I thought there was a ton of fraud in 2020…?

the “administrative state” in practice is a lot of very hard working, practically anonymous people doing the thankless work of making this country run and a drug-addled dipshit is slandering them in order to steal our money for himself

My partner was in the Coast Guard and knows people who have died because they did not use NOAA forecasts.

Last month, Calvin Robinson brought antisemitic Christian nationalist pastor Joel Webbon onto his podcast to explain why he believes that "Judaism is a pernicious evil."

someone forgot to scrub the author metadata in OPM memos... www.404media.co/opm-memos-to...

In Maricopa County they pay for volunteer coordinators to recruit people that help kiddos through the foster care system and family court. VOLUNTEERS.

All of this AI talk and it still won’t combine like 6 different scheduling apps. What good are you?

1000% this. Public libraries are actually pretty radical--free to all, and based on the idea that info should be available to all. Get a library card! Use your library! Those numbers often play into their funding.

Also, what about the books you thoroughly enjoyed that are out of your “comfort zones?” That AI would never give you because it’s not the 4th iteration of your genre?

In April, For The People Leftist Library project will be putting out a new resource about how local communities can organize people's assemblies focused on their public libraries. We will launch it virtually. I hope that many people will use the resource to organize your own people's assemblies.

A study of European electoral data suggests that social democratic parties alienate voters by moving toward the political center.

The DOJ argued in court that Indigenous people don't have birthright citizenship, even though they have for 100 years via @diinsilversmith.bsky.social

Hey while megaretailers profiting one of the richest men in world are out here doing this shit www.advocate.com/news/amazon-... maybe it's a fun time to switch to @librofm.bsky.social for audiobooks. Select the indie bookstore you'd like to support, listen away. Comp prices to aforementioned jerks

Okay, I’m hoping this will gain some traction on Bluesky *inhales* SALEM PUBLIC LIBRARY IN OREGON IS IN DANGER OF CLOSING. This sets a dangerous precedent for state capital libraries!! This is a continuation of the saga from last year, when we were saved at the last second by the then-mayor. (1/2)

I am sure there are real historians that can weigh in on this, but historically a part of the role of the clergy and queens was the ability to appeal to the person in power to give clemency and mercy.

I love being an informal learning space for the community. Kiddos were playing with video sensing in scratch yesterday and laughed non stop at their own antics.

Ichiro Suzuki is a first round HOFer. There IS some good news today.

an off the top of my head list of people to read instead of neil gaiman, who sucks: n k jemisin bora chung silvia moreno-garcia ursula k le guin octavia butler xiran jay zhao ted chiang neon yang the readymade bodhisattva (anthology of south korean sci fi) add more if you want!

I continue to believe this stuff is still what most humans want out of social media.

Shocked not shocked.

It’s weird being a baseball fan and not a football fan. I can only read half of the sports posts… am fine with that.

That was some real dumb internet discourse yesterday. Are we all cool yet?

You can win an advance review copy of THE BEWITCHING, out July 2025. Three women in three different eras encounter danger and witchcraft in this eerie horror saga. 💀 Open worldwide. gleam.io/zUcKj/the-be...

Yesteday we brought you the story of how insurers have relied on doctors, some of whom “shut their eyes” to medical opinions that opposed their conclusions. Today, @mayatmiller.bsky.social and I tell you the story of how insurers cite progress as a reason to deny www.propublica.org/article/ment...

I read all day.

This book helped me understand the basics of physics in ways that truly opened my mind to the inner workings of our cosmos. Read it.

Vivek Ramaswamy is not only a great example of how the 'model minority' archetype doesn't save folks but also provides a lesson in how bootlickers always eventually get kicked.

I was on a Prevent Child Abuse board and someone was talking about a convo she had with a real life reply guy. He said something along the lines of “You can never get rid of child abuse. It will always happen.” “I will never accept that a child has to suffer. Otherwise, what are we doing here?”

Book banners LOVE to lose. A federal judge has struck down key parts of an Arkansas law that would have allowed criminal charges against librarians and booksellers. www.huffpost.com/entry/ap-us-...

For the last few years, we've been treated to quarterly "retrospectives" that asked if the #MeToo movement went too far. That anybody would dare pitch, greenlight, write or publish such a disgusting piece of writing is proof that the movement didn't go far enough.

Is this what draining the swamp looks like to the GOP? Because y’all let him stay after this report was done.
