Did you know... "Gargamel" resembles François Rabelais' classic Gargantua and Pantagruel, where giantess Gargamelle is the mother of Gargantua. This is appropriate since Gargamel is a giant compared to the Smurfs. The word gargamelle in French is also a slang term for "throat"
