I started sharing my writing online in 2015, and if it weren’t for all the wonderfully kind people leaving comments and encouraging my (somewhat crude) writing (compared to now), I would have felt a lot less motivated to continue 🥹 All of them shaped me and kept me going; made me want to improve.

there's a XV fic that I will not name that made me feel so insanely seen on so many levels that I wrote a two-part essay in the comments crying about how deeply touched I felt. went back to reread, and in the comments the author had left that they were working on one last chapter for the readers.

Around when I began writing and didn’t have any confidence in my writing, I had this one follower who would comment every chapter of my fic so nicely I ended up writing more than 150 K words. They would comment what they read and what it made them feel. Now I’ve written about 80 fics, 6 long ones.

my favorite comments are the ones where a person invites me to discuss the characters, the story, our interpretation of the original artwork itself. Obviously, I like praise as much as the next person, but I think commenting is bigger than that. it's about fandom as conversation!

Comments are my life force 😭 they keep me going, for real. A lot of the time, they point out positives I failed to recognize in my work, and allow me to foster new skills I wasn't aware I was developing. Commenters are the best 🖤🖤

I will never forget the page-long comment on my longfic that was actually getting into the fic. It was a college online discussion board’s wet dream and I loved every line of it. Comments re-affirm my at times shaky confidence in my skills to tell engaging stories and that is priceless, really ☺️🥰😭🙏

Not only that, but during those moments where I'm struggling to write, rereading comments helps me to remember that my readers have faith in me, and it gives me the strength to keep going. ❤️

Genuinely I'd trade all the kudos for more comments. Comments about how the characters make you feel, how the story intrigues you, the things you picked up on or noticed, all of that makes me so happy. It makes me want to write like nothing else does, to pour effort in.

man its beautiful being in fandom... like to be able to read a masterpiece of a fic and then be able to tell the creator DIRECTLY how beautiful the fic was and to actually know that they read your comment because they RESPONDED - it just has me kicking my feet like a fangirl 🥺
