Yesterday, the European Parliament voted against a review of the geo-blocking rules for audiovisual content. This is a blow for all European citizens who will continue to be left with no access to most films produced on the continent: communia-association.org/2023/12/14/t...

European elections will take place in June 2024. The next Commission and Parliament need to put the needs of Europe’s knowledge institutions front and center. We need a Digital Knowledge Act for Europe: communia-association.org/2023/12/12/a...

Tomorrow, the European Parliament will vote on the IMCO report on geo-blocking. We ask the EP not to be intimated by the misleading claims made by audiovisual rightsholders and vote in favour of the report. Here's our public letter in support of the report: communia-association.org/2023/12/11/g...

A first look at the copyright relevant parts in the final #AI Act compromise, by Paul Keller on the #KluwerCopyrightBlog copyrightblog.kluweriplaw.com/2023/12/11/a...

Together with Felix Reda we outlined our asks for a Digital Knowledge Act to enable & support knowledge institutions in Europe: - no liability when acting in good faith - fight unfair licensing - no paywalls for publicly funded research More on @euractiv.com: www.euractiv.com/section/digi...

Why is there a need for a Digital Knowledge Act in the EU? Because as a new op-ed from communia points out, libraries & educational institutions encounter “significant barriers when trying to provide learning materials in digital form,” among other challenges. Learn more ⤵️

Read our op-ed on what we at @communia.bsky.social think we need from the next EU Commission and Parliament:

DNS-Resolver sind nicht für Urheberrechtsverletzungen verantwortlich. Das Dresdner Oberlandesgericht hob ein früheres Urteil zu #Quad9 auf und erteilt Netzsperren eine Absage. Das schafft Rechtssicherheit für Internetdienste und stärkt die Informationsfreiheit. netzpolitik.org/2023/erfolg-...

Geoblocking has made its return to the EU agenda: The EU Parliament is preparing to vote on a non-binding report to suggest to include audiovisual in the revision of the geoblocking legislation: to allow everyone to access culture cross-borders. [1/2]

We urgently need a reform of the Geo-blocking Regulation to enable broader access to audiovisual works. Read our latest blog post and ask your MEP to support the IMCO report when it's up for vote next week.

So apparently I listened the most to Emily Remler, Wes Montgomery, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Jeff Parker. That's a bit on the nose. 🎸

Did you know that Ireland 🇮🇪 holds the record for most wins at the Eurovision song contest (7 times) followed by Sweden 🇸🇪 (6). But where do they place in our Eurovision DSM contest? Register here to find out on December 12: docs.google.com/forms/d/1Kd1...

I have seven unused invite codes. If anybody needs one (or multiple), let me know.

This in the EC AI Act compromise proposal - can anybody enlighten me how this is supposed to work in practice? "Synthetically generated content like text and images must be marked in machine-readable format and detectable as artificially generated or manipulated." www.euractiv.com/section/arti...
