A defining policy battle is about to come to a head in this country. The Republican budget will force everyone - especially Congress and the White House - to make plain whether they are prepared to harm the rest of us in order to fund tax cuts for the wealthiest.

Read the real stories about what USAID cuts mean, not the Musk propaganda www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/o...

Good. Go, AP!

Firing all of the JAGs (Judge Advocates General)—the top lawyers in each service branch—is just as bad as, if not worse than, firing (most of) the Joint Chiefs.

We can't afford air traffic controllers, but we can afford a $200 million government ad campaign thanking Trump. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

Judge Advocates General. He’s fired the top military lawyers in each service.

A female admiral. A Black general.

Replacing all the JAGs seems…not good.

Regardless of how much coverage it gets, Trump aiming to install a military command that places loyalty to him above loyalty to the constitution needs to be a much bigger story.

🚨NEW: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is planning to fire Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff C.Q. Brown, a 4-Star General and 41-year veteran of the Air Force who flew over 130 hours in combat as a fighter pilot. REPOST if you stand with General C.Q. Brown against Hegseth!

There have never been kings in America. The monarchy doesn't start now.

She's right. We have an obligation to resist kings.

BREAKING: the stock market. Make America great again!

CSPAN Caller from West Virginia: I’m a diabetic and I’m on Medicare. When Biden was in there, my insulin was $6 for a 28 day supply. I just went to CVS, it went back up to $80…

Welcome to the NFL, John Carney.

Great news!

In one of those stories, Naftali Bendavid writes: "To a degree possibly unprecedented in the country’s nearly 250 years, Trump is barreling through the executive branch with the conviction that it is his to rule alone, no matter the laws Congress has enacted."

Real leadership on display here: "We can blame other people..." We sure have come a long way from Harry Truman and "the buck stops here."

Is it bad to purge the ... top authority for nuclear-safety matters at the National Nuclear Security Administration, plus a Los Alamos emergency-preparedness manager and a radiation-protection manager? Because it seems kinda bad! Via @eggerdc.bsky.social www.thebulwark.com/p/inside-dog...

More Americans say Trump is a dictator than say Zelensky is

Front page of today's New York Post.

BREAKING: The Department of Energy said DOGE firings of nuclear safety officials were non-critical staff. That is not true. In fact, one of the officials who was locked out of his work accounts was Acting Chief of Defense Nuclear Safety James Todd.

I served in combat. Caring for veterans is personal to me. Firing veterans crisis hotline employees - those who meet vets at their darkest moments - is a moral stain & strategic failure. Absolutely unacceptable, especially from the Commander-in-Chief.

This is really sad. Adults: We have to do better by our community's children.

looking back everything went to shit when Schoolhouse Rock stopped airing

Canada wins! #fournations

This is a great idea. We desperately need more civic education, and it needs to be digestible and fun.

DOGE's funding is up to $40MM, @ProPublica.org finds And this: "If DOGE is a federal agency, it can’t shield its records from the public. If it’s not an agency, then DOGE’s tens of millions in funding weren’t legally allocated and should be returned, some contend" www.propublica.org/article/doge...

Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage.

Scoop: 40 news orgs have signed on to a letter circulated by the WHCA supporting the AP and denouncing Trump's move to block them from official events. The WHCA has gone through great pains to keep the letter from leaking, but I obtained a copy. Read it in Status: www.status.news/p/associated...

Well well, if it isn’t the WSJ edit page dealing with the consequences of its own actions. Nonetheless, better late than never.

I have long believed that not enough has been written about how GOP members have felt physically intimidated by Trump supporters. It doesn’t excuse their cowardice, but it still deserves more attention.

It was an honor to sign the guest book in the home of Anne Frank. I was here as a younger man and thought about her life as a dark chapter of history. Today, I can’t help but think of her story as one of caution. Our world is fragile, and it’s incumbent on us not to break it.

Blumenthal: "What world is he living in? It is not only contrary to the facts and the truth but utterly despicable. A disgusting betrayal of a country that has bled and fought and died for freedom ... the president's surrender is pathetic and weak."
