The cover of this week’s Der Spiegel, with the stark headline, “Betrayed: First Zelensky, next us?”

Yet another reminder that businesspeople are manifestly unfit for elected office "Give us your minerals or we'll let Russia kill you all" isn't negotiating. It's extortion.

ProPublica is recording the casualties of the DOGE purge, highlighting the scale of what is being lost as public health programs and seasoned experts are caught in the Trump administration’s blunt-force drive to shrink the federal government. Jordan Peterson is another example of what I call a competency cosplayer. Informed people immediately identity him as an intellectual fraud, but uninformed people can fancy him an intellectual who flatters their unexamined prejudices.

We can't afford air traffic controllers, but we can afford a $200 million government ad campaign thanking Trump. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

A great read from what Gen. Charles Q. Brown’s family, hometown friends, and early military colleagues in San Antonio say about him and about Trump’s firing of him. www.expressnews.com/news/article...

‘It’s blackmail’: Ukrainians react to Trump demand for $500bn share of minerals www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Be clear about what you are seeing. The firing of these senior officers has nothing to do with competence. This is creating an oath of loyal by the Armed Forces to the Leader. We face an uncertain future.

Let's say their names: * General CQ Brown, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff: FIRED FOR BEING BLACK * Admiral Lisa Franchetti, Chief of Naval Operations: FIRED FOR BEING FEMALE * Admiral Linda Fagan, Coast Guard Commandant: FIRED FOR BEING FEMALE All replaced by less qualified white guys.

Democratic governors should have all walked out together midway through that meeting but especially after Trump's attack on Gov. Janet Mills. I don't know why they didn't. Makes no sense.

Replacing all the JAGs seems…not good.

“You’re willing to risk our entire network to a 17-year-old?” one frustrated executive asked the company’s CEO in 2022. “Are you for real right now?”

AP could have been cowardly and rolled over for Trump. “We had to comply or we’d lose [funding/access/privileges]” like so many orgs are doing. It would have been easy for them to say “gulf of America” But it never stops there. They got the memo. Good job AP.

The US federal government has almost no capacity to resist a color revolution. The question is whether Americans have one in them.

Sure Trump fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the CNO....but they fired the top JAG's in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Why would you fire the top lawyers in the armed services at night on a Friday? That's the part you should be freaking out about.

Federal workers launch a new site to share inside information about DOGE

Republican President George H.W. Bush appointed America’s first black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Republican President Donald J. Trump fired America’s second black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. For no reason at all.

Additionally there is little chance Trump would hold up his end of whatever deal is struck.

None of this has anything to do with effectiveness, or “lethality,” or promoting “warfighters," or any other buzzwords. It is praetorianism, plain and simple, and it is an assault on our military and our democracy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

It’s a real choice for DoJ to force out some of its best lawyers, for DoD to fire career soldiers, and now for the CIA to cut loose people who have the inside scoop on recruitment at the Company. Sure would be a shame if these folks all got in the same room together.

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

Firing all of the JAGs (Judge Advocates General)—the top lawyers in each service branch—is just as bad as, if not worse than, firing (most of) the Joint Chiefs.

Not surprised at all. Shameful and disgusting — but very on brand for Trump and this aspiring fascist Administration

Here’s what is going on. When you start firing the military’s top lawyers, that means you are getting ready to order the military to do unlawful things. Trump replaces those JAGs with men who will justify any future unlawful and unethical actions that he wants the military to do.

"During the meeting, Ukraine was told it faced imminent shutoff of the Starlink service if it did not reach a deal on critical minerals, said the source, who requested anonymity to discuss closed negotiations." Astonishing betrayal of an ally. www.reuters.com/business/us-...

Always with the quid pro quo. The narcissist psychopath is incapable of feeling empathy for anyone and his "cabinet" is now full of people with similarly disordered minds. It's truly heartbreaking to watch Zelenskyy try to save his country from the wolves that now beset them on all sides.

Had two thoughts on this news — 1) the obvious it’s to privatize it reaction and 2) he’s going to try to f*** with mail ballots in elections

Trump pardoned the sentence of arguably the single biggest drug trafficker in American history on his second day in office!

“But the big things we can blame other people for”

At dawn, we drive to Matamoros! ¥Ándale!

If you are the governor of an entire state and stood up in this room and walked right up to him to take over the microphone, what would happen? You all swore an oath to some combo of state or federal constitutions. Fucking honor it. People have died for less to defend it.

"Frederick Douglass is the very best that this nation has produced. The cancelation of this parade in his honor [reflects] a deep animus toward anything that detracts from a white-centered view of American history. Yes, racism." open.substack.com/pub/kevinmle...

NEW: A regional FEMA chief of staff took Elon Musk's Fork in the Road offer. He has proof of receipt. But they didn't honor it. Instead, they fired him 13 days later. Now, this retired Navy captain is speaking out. www.thebulwark.com/p/musk-doge-...

Translation: That’s a nice country you’ve got there. Would be a shame if something happened to it.

History teaches us that when governments begin persecuting a vulnerable minority group while simultaneously making it harder for members of that group to escape persecution by fleeing abroad... it doesn't end well for anyone. www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/politic...

This is such a savvy move by Judge Ho. It’s not just that Clement has impeccable (conservative) credentials; he was the Solicitor General from 2004–08, and even Acting AG briefly, so he can participate with quite a bit of perspective as to the proper role of the Department of Justice.
