I wish more people were talking about egg prices as less of a “muh egg prices!” thing and more about the fact that there is an organized egg cartel that is illegally price gouging and almost certainly illegally price fixing and reaping massive, gigantic profits.

spending today (and last night) at boone docs, a festival of southern appalachian short documentaries. if you’re looking to deepen ties in your community, i highly recommend attending a similar event near you

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

Letters went out to federal workers this morning stating they were fired due to poor performance. However, all employees had been rated as “exceptional” performers by their supervisors. Please keep these records and pursue wrongful termination claims. Let the lawsuits begin.

watching a sport and that guy shows up and they keep featuring him. just a note to stations, i’m switching off every time this happens

Hey #HistSTM #HistSci colleagues - got someone looking for intro texts on non-western contributions to western science (and their erasure/appropriation) through ancient/early modern period & on decolonising the story of the scientific revolution etc. pls offer reading recommendations! 📇

The new Trump administration has illegally removed far more people from their jobs because of speech and beliefs in the last month than the entire list of cancelled or pressured people (many of whom were criticized, not fired) compiled by FIRE and others over years. It’s not remotely close.

I don’t remember mass action from STEM folks when Jeff Sessions attacked the NEH in 2015 and I’m still mad about it. But. That’s not gonna stop me fighting for the NIH and NSF.

just makes me want to weep. i can’t stop thinking about all of the federal employees and the important jobs they do

it is wild to me that people still genuinely believe that organizations or even individuals can be apolitical. i’m a baby gen x-er who grew up working class, and all of my education has taught me otherwise

Targeting trans people, Black people, immigrants etc is not a “distraction” from fascism, it IS fascism. It lives in complementary relationship to destroying democracy, because democracy is inherently about participation of minorities.

genuine question—people are resigning in protest of some federal orders, but would it not be better for some (if they have the privilege and i know that’s a big if) to stay and just not follow orders that are illegal? i’m seeing people calling these resignations a win, and i’m not sure i see it?

i’m looking forward to this one too! congrats @hngreen.bsky.social!

The removal of a transgender reference from the National Park Service’s Stonewall website wasn’t done by NPS staff. Elon, care to elaborate?

ASL interpreters who work in the arts (concerts, opera, theatre, etc) deserve to be valued as artists too. it takes so much skill to be this good at capturing the FEEL of music beyond just translating the meaning of the text and it’s an invaluable accessibility service

Same, Bus. Same.

while watching, i said, even if people aren’t into the music; they can’t deny this is art—just look at it!

no crypto commercials. replaced by ai commercials. no other parallels, huh?

genuine question here, because i’ve missed this somehow—when did congress’s right to set tariffs move to the exec branch? i know it has happened over time but now the exec can just say: “tariffs,” and they happen immediately? or is this a blustery longer term plan?

my students are shocked to learn in an introvert and i’ve worked hard to be comfortable in the classroom

i thought if there was a chance any of these noms would be stopped, it was defense, though i knew that was a slim one

sunday scaries that last all weekend in spite of the horrors in the world? must be the weekend before classes start
