Reading a philosophy book section on informal fallacies, and the writer says insults are not per se ad hominem attacks, because "ad hominem" is when the insult is used to attack validity. So, "you have tiny balls" = OK "your views on set theory are wrong because you have tiny balls" = ad hominem
