"Lamar won and demanded that we find victories in our own battles." This is a word.

USAID folks often work in some of the most dangerous parts of the world, doing essential work for humanity. And this is how our US government is treating them.

THIS. A billionaire who is NOT an elected official is now delving into the most secure of personal and personnel information. This is terrifying. Is this really what those right-wing and 'libertarian' voters wanted?

Today, news reports that Musk and others are referring to US-AID as '"an evil" "Viper's nest of radical-left marxists who hate America." On the other hand, lefties assume it's a nest of CIA agents. Neither is true. US-AID isn't perfect, but it has done great work in the world.

THIS is terrifying. This cabal has already demonstrated their inability to carry out security, protect privacy, and so on - in addition to their own inherent biases.

The leopards!!!!

I've worked with many many wonderful & sincere USAID folks, but they ALSO have worked in circumstances where their knowledge can be used for ill intent, or they can be ASSUMED to have ill intent. This is dangerous and unfair.

"Late that night, after you’ve run the conversation through your mind again and again, a realization jolts you awake." We all worry about Musk, but this guy is just as scary. As the author points out, Republicans have abrogated their constitutional obligations in confirming Patel's appointment.

Now confirmed by other news sources. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/02...

A new era of government censorship has begun. It started with the silencing of scientific speech, when the admin blocked release of research on bird flu. But MAGA has also cracked down on other wrongthink—on race, geography (!), and of course Trump himself www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

We don’t have a polling feature here, so I’ll try to do it a different way. We need to tell Democrats in office what WE WANT. If you want democrats to OBSTRUCT EVERYTHING, then hit REPOST. If you want democrats to find common ground with republicans then hit LIKE. Let’s see what the people want.

“//…// no indication of how long that review will take. That has left investigators wondering how to meet payrolls and buy and maintain essential equipment and supplies.” 👀

Musk and team block treasury access to essential computer systems. www.reuters.com/world/us/mus...

Elon Musk staff has been caught installing hard drives inside the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the Treasury Department, and the General Services Administration (GSA).

My heart pounds with panic reading these accounts. How terrible.

Tariffs on Colombia - time to stock up on coffee and other things before prices go WAAAY up.

In the face of anxiety, I CAN do little things. I have told Latino/a people who work for me that I will do what I can for them if they face harassment or ICE. It's so little, but I want the people in my work/school circle to know I am with them to the best of my ability. It's nothing, I know ...

Developing a new combined CRM and NRM course. As with any new activity, my brain gets all twisted around with all the things that 'go' together. So it's off to 'whiteboard' ideas and activities to get it organized. #anthropology #teaching

Super excited at the increase in people I know (or want to know) on BlueSky. We are creating a community!!!!

Hard to imagine that Altadena’s recovery will look much different than what happened in New Orleans. Jackie Robinson and Octavia Butler will exist in murals; Black people will exist in memory. The real looters will move in and thrive.

A part of the story that hasn't been reported enough. And many of these workers won't be eligible for FEMA.

Journalist Anas Al-Sharif removes his helmet and announces a ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel. His voice steady as his fellow Palestinians lift him into the air in celebration. For 15 months, the Al-Jazeera correspondent has reported on the genocide of his people in Gaza.

The joys of working in a small department & university funding cutbacks (that part was purely political, imo). At any rate, I'm teaching a portmanteau NRM and CRM course. I'm strong on NRM but I'm busy reading up on CRM (and inviting lots of guest speakers). #AcademicSky #Anthropology

They, we, must fight harder than ever. It’s just going to be maddening, watching a convicted felon president tell lies and corrupt our values. We have to believe that a day of reckoning will come. Without that belief, he wins. newrepublic.com/post/190086/...

I don't use GIS, but it's a significant part of our Anthropology & Geography Department. Almost all of my Anthropology majors learn GIS.

Just shared this article with my physical therapy team. "Running performance in Australopithecus afarensis." The videos showing how our hominin ancestors might have run, and how our own species evolved for running performance, is so fun. www.cell.com/current-biol...
