Mom used to have this book of poetry, "Reflections on the Gift of Watermelon Pickles," when I was a kid. It included Hughes' "Too Blue." It was big stuff for a little kid but shifted something in me. Built space for empathy & kindness. Hughes was a master of his craft, so now I'm crying again.
