Had someone spew this at me yesterday. It’s such a lack of acknowledgment (ignorance) to how LLMs like ChatGPT work. They aren’t comparable. Calculators do maths you could physically do. LLMs spews out information based on a prediction algorithm, ie what it “thinks” you want to know.

#UKHE Please encourage disabled students at your institutions to complete the DSUK annual survey. It is a vital tool in helping to shape disability support in HE, as well as providing invaluable feedback on current issues facing disabled students. It has real impact!

UK universities should be advising students and staff travelling to the US on social media use, what border staff are entitled to seize or search, what to do if detained, and how to keep US colleagues safe, says @petraboynton.bsky.social www.researchprofessionalnews.com/rr-news-uk-v...

I get asked a lot during talks at universities how to integrate LLMs into the classroom "ethically". And the more I think about it, the more I'm affirmed the answer is "don't". This piece by @sonjadrimmer.bsky.social and Christopher Nygren on AI provides some excellent arguments as to why.

Been thinking about this a lot myself in relation to navigating my relationship with my conservative parents during this time.

Really. Really! Enjoyed this. Thank you for the anger and the honest conversation.

My mom is here visiting, so I convinced her to help me make southern biscuits for my undergrad students’ last day of class. My own form of bribery lol

Submit your abstracts for the next issue of @thegraduatecenter.bsky.social's Theory, Research, & Action in Urban Ed (TRAUE) journal! The theme is "Upholding the Thawabet (الثوابت): Staying Principled in Education, Solidarity, & Resistance." Open to students, scholars, teachers, activists, & more!

I haven’t been a great reader since the PhD, but one thing that’s really brought it back for me is Childrens / Young adult fict. Started with reading prep for my Studies of Childhood class and has now turned into rereading books that made me fall in love with reading. Will post some favs below.

Utterly unsurprisingly, the universal provision of free school meals across London has delivered benefits across the board, with positive effects on family finances, children's and parents' mental health and children's learning. Long may it continue! 👏👏 www.standard.co.uk/news/london/...

Update. Activity was one of my favs thus far for my Studies of Childhood class. SO many good conversations came out of this creation project and the reflective sharing afterwards. Will be using this again for next year.

Went MIA as my parents are currently in town. Teaching today is my joyful little escape. It’s also the last “content” driven day for my undergrad class, and I’m pretty stoked about the activity I have planned. Will hopefully remember to post an update later 😊

This is what I strive for. The more we talk about teacher well being and advocate for better working conditions, the more we support the students in front of them.

The March girls all voted Harris with Marmee leading the pack. Laurie voted Harris but only because Jo would have been disappointed if he hadn’t. Mr. Laurence talked about Tr*ump but voted Harris in secret.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what productive collectivism and “pushing back” looks like in education spaces these days. I feel as though my work position gets more precarious on a daily basis and thus this has become a daily tension/struggle. What are y’all’s thoughts? #EduSky

As an American I’m not sure I’ll ever get over that this is now my normal walk to work view.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this the last couple of weeks. Time to get to work!

Advice from a Literature teacher and resister: read your history, but don’t forget your literature. Resistance is woven through the words of abolitionism and feminism and anti-fascism. Read the history and the literature.

I don’t know any undocumented people. I ain’t never seen someone shoplift. Don’t know anyone who’s ever had an abortion. Don’t know anybody providing them, neither. This is simple.

As a southern America I deeply appreciate how much British people love butter. More specifically heavily buttered toast. Just 10 out of 10!

Goodreads is owned by Jeff Bezos. A better alternative is StoryGraph, a Black woman-owned platform. And before y’all start, you can transfer all your Goodreads data to Storygraph so you literally have no excuse.

If you are a literacy educator, please comment below. I would like to add you to my list. Thank you in advance. #blacksky #academicsky #booksky #educators bsky.app/profile/did:...

One of my favorite things about moving to this space is getting to curate a new feed, finding new people to follow alongside some of my old favs. A breath of fresh air. 🦋🦋🦋

If I could teach a women’s studies class I’d add the book Prize Women by Caroline Lea to my reading list. One of my favourite feminist fiction reads this year. So So good!
