Can confirm, Kofola is excellent! For those outside the former Czechoslovakia, check your local East European supermarkets to see if any have it available.

This week on the blog: Impossible Logistics! Absurd Plans! *Terrible* Lighting! That's right, we're back to Rings of Power, season 2 to begin our look at the ten layers of hot nonsense that was the Siege of Eregion, starting with - of course - Logistics! acoup.blog/2025/02/21/c...

#Reaver #TTRPG is a modern #indie #RPG about classic Sword & Sorcery adventures that sit next to historical adventure tales on the genre spectrum. Think #TheLastKingdom with beastmen, or #Gladiator with sorcerer-priests! #Kickstarter coming soon! www.kickstarter.com/projects/rav...

Very interesting ideas.

The Discovery of the Okapi, a complex tale very tightly connected to colonialism and European exploitation of tropical Africa. Here's Part 1 in my 2-part series on this really interesting story... tetzoo.com/blog/2023/4/... #okapi #mammals #zoology

Right. Transphobic asshats have got a petition to repeal the GRA to over 10,000 signatures. Fuck that. Let's get this one higher: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

Just read this excellent article by @rosgakori.bsky.social about #Oldhammer nostalgia. Some wonderful models here that I remember owning, or wanting to own! 1e Tyranid Warriors ftw! And the Ambull is so cute. medium.com/@aasa.timone...

Last week we had a #VikingFriday thread about viking activity BEFORE the Viking Age (793 CE). Naturally, this week is about what came after 1066 that could still be called ‘viking’… (1/18)

I don't do any of the cool kid hashtag questions but: Hi, I'm Bobby Derie. You might know me from books like SEX & THE CTHULHU MYTHOS (2014) and WEIRD TALERS: ESSAYS ON ROBERT E. HOWARD & OTHERS (2019). I'm an independent pulp scholar & literary critic with a focus on women, LGBTQ+, & BIPOC voices.

Spotted in Yorkshire Museum shop today, Alex Harvey's @alexharvv.bsky.social book "Forgotten Vikings".

In our experience, people who support AI images betray, by both word and action, a deep and abiding contempt not only for the art produced by artists, but for the artists themselves. An obnoxious position, to say the least. Can't imagine anyone who cares about art, or artists, holding it.

Just had the great pleasure of reading Bryn Hammond's @brynhammond.bsky.social short story "Women Who Lie Alone in Tombs". An excellent meditation on cultural heritage, gender, politics and identity set in Tchingis Khan's Central Asia! Free dowload: payhip.com/b/8asUM

Today's vikingism: a bright pink viking ship parade float, taking part in Reykjavík Pride in 2015. Styled as 'the settlement-queens' (landnámsdrottningarnar), the float performance was conceived by Icelandic singer Páll Óskar.

Should also mention that Bryn will be one of the amazing authors featured in the upcoming issues of New Edge Sword and Sorcery magazine @newedgeswordmag.bsky.social currently being crowdfunded. Back now for classic S&S with 21st century sensibilities! bsky.app/profile/newe...

New on my blog: by popular demand, the first in a new series in which I look back on my work developing the Old World pantheon for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay's first edition. graemedavis.wordpress.com

Haven't promoted my first book in a while. Still the only nonfiction book on love, sex, gender, in the life and works of H. P. Lovecraft and those who follow him. If I had it to write over again, I'd definitely change and expand on a few things. www.hippocampuspress.com/h.p-lovecraf...

I've been downloading and converting my Kindle ebooks for years. Amazon have made it progressively harder in that time, but it's still possible!

@tetzoo.bsky.social Just wondering if you've seen (and have any thoughts about) this new bird discovery? www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/s...

I am hugely grateful to these well-informed fantasy fans for taking the time to write these letters rebuking The Guardian for that asinine 'romantasy' opinion piece. www.theguardian.com/books/2025/f...

Thread on Rendlesham, c.600-700 East Anglia, pre-Viking Age vikings (?), Sutton Hoo, and periodisation! #VikingFriday

Our latest book review is up! Kathleen Cruz reviews Giulio Celotto, "Amor Belli: Love and Strife in Lucan’s Bellum Civile" (@uofmpress.bsky.social 2022). Don't miss the author-reviewer dialogue following the review!

To those who did not believe that I saw a Lawrence of Arabia Good Luck Babe edit on twitter, here it is. It was made by @xenomorph247

Five year old's objection to being accused of eating snot pie was that she doesn't like pie.

The degree to which some people in education are passively accepting or even welcoming gen AI into what we do seriously enrages me. Put aside the unethical & environmental aspects of model development; telling students it's ok to use *betrays the non-negotiable core of our responsibility to them*.

LLMs don't read, they don't think, they don't feel, they are not capable of critical evaluation of the kind peer review is meant to foster. If the academic conversation is not conducted by unique human intelligences in community with each other, it ceases to matter. It is giving up.
