End of the long harvest. Painting on 35mm photos developed using a mix of late winter plants, using spent logs from the fire for paint

"the curlew is always with us in the Winter because when it is going to rain they start looking up in the sky and begin to baul. We don't see them very often in Summer." Another mention of Curlews as rain foretellers from Duchas Schools Collection

"When the curlew calls or when the swallow flies low, or when the smoke of the chimney is blown downwards it is a sign of rain." Duchas Schools Collection

"I was lonely for a while this evening, listening to the crows caw as they returned home. Should I hear the beautiful lark, she would rent my heart. Now, as I write, the odd curlew mournfully calls as they fly over." Beautiful Curlew mention from Bobby Sand's prison diaries.

One morning Honour heard a crying voice outside the house. She went out and there she saw a curlew flying over the house. While she was out the house took fire. They blessing she gave to the Curlew was that its nest should never be found. www.duchas.ie/en/cbes/4428...

Curlew, 35mm developed in Cleavers, Nettle and Comfrey. There are only 105 breeding pairs of Curlew left in Ireland. I’ve watched the pair here for a couple of years but I’m yet to hear the song. In 1990 there were over 5,000 breading pairs. #curlew #ecophoto #35mm

Found in the local charity shop for a euro, can’t wait to read about the hungry grass! #irishfolklore #ecology #earthtales

The Field was created by a mammoth act of guerrilla gardening by local man Tony Louth who took it upon himself to compost over a disused car park using waste from the fruit and veg market and horse yard over years. Great short doc: vimeo.com/195645359

Feral Kale at The Field. 35mm developed using Comfrey leaf. Feral Kale at The Field. 35mm developed using Comfrey leaf. Never have I seen a kale outside of its cultivated and polite neatness, living its best life as a jubilant outlaw romping chaotically over urban landscapes. #feralecologies

A less complimentary mention of Comfrey on the Dúchas schools collection. It mentions 'comfrey or meacan oraibh'. Not heard that Irish name for it before, anyone able to translate for me? Most mentions on Dúchas note it as a cure for everything, sprains to cuts to bones www.duchas.ie/en/cbes/4921...

'Also known as Lus na gcnámh mbriste (Plant of the broken bone) and Knitbone, Comfrey was used in traditional medicine as a treatment for arthritis and other bone ailments. ' Comfrey plant, from Wildflowers of Ireland www.wildflowersofireland.net/plant_detail...

I’m actually painting pictures of infinity with my music. It has something else in it, something from another world. #SunRa

35mm developed using Three Cornered Leek. Photos from The Field D8, an urban novel ecology that’s semi managed but largely feral. These images are from a cold February, 2024. Cont. in comments:
