I'm ready for social media threads devoted solely to Scottish local news.

"Corrieri was only 21 years old when German officers took him from the restaurant in Marseille, where he worked as a plumber. He was sent to Germany as part of the Compulsory Work Service (STO) programme enacted by the French Vichy government in 1943."

'More young people were not in work, education or training at the end of 2024 than at any point in the past 11 years, new data suggests.....That is 13.4%, or almost one out of every seven people in that age range.' 1/2

This will be seen in Europe and the UK as an egregious attack on the rule of law and human dignity, aided and abetted by elements of the current US administration, who evidently see this as fan service.

I just checked and this is a real result in Google search.

One for UK readers: economist compares what Trump and Musk are doing to the US to ... Brexit.

Interesting how we're all collapsing just as we round the corner into rising fascism. How much of this is really about money at all?

People keep saying "it's gonna be a long four years," and I keep saying: this cannot go on for even a small portion of that. People will die, government will crumble, America will go to war, and our democratic republic will be dead, buried, and rotted out top to bottom. He *must* be removed ASAP

I’m not sure this is a good thing. In fact, I’m sure it’s not

It is Elon or the University of Edinburgh? “It requires saving $4bn per day every day from now through the end of September.”

"Many wondered, 'How do I shop, if I don’t shop on Amazon?' ILSR’s Kennedy Smith is here with answers." ilsr.org/articles/its...

and after all, who can forget Picasso’s famous mural depicting an impressive 3.4% average growth in per capita income

Incredible organization by the UK press media, across political views. Now imagine people having the same power and resources like the creative industry to push back on the extraction of their own data by AI companies without consent.

some of the blame for the current financial crisis can be attributed to the decision to remove borrowing safeguards. Though estates benefited the entry of UK unis into the world of private placements and bonds has left a legacy that will take decades to reckon with wonkhe.com/blogs/we-are...

I am wondering, half-heartedly, if the Labour is waking up on AI and possibly the death of their Universities and associated economies (?) as they realise Europe will get stronger in the face of the collapsing US.

📢 Australians working in the gig economy will now have greater protections, in a world dictated by trip ratings and reviews. Now new federal laws have come into effect, designed to ensure workers can't be just kicked off an app.

Thanks to Minor Composition for putting on you tube this dialogue we had about my collection of essays After the Internet www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXQ5...

To repeat: "A country so stupid it actively trashes one of things it's good at and famous for."

'Sources have told the Guardian that ministers have accepted the need to protect British creative industries from the plans, which would otherwise have made their work available for access by AI companies unless they deliberately opted out.'

I would go work for her.

"Leaders... said they’d fielded numerous calls from the parents of transgender youth worried about this legislation. Senate Majority Leader Jamie Pedersen, D-Seattle, said his office had gotten over 500 emails and calls from constituents about the bill." Your voice matters. ❤️👊☎️

Obviously no direct comparison, but Starmer would do well to understand that, in the German election, 39% of those who viewed their financial situation as bad voted AfD. This report is right to urge him to focus on living standards rather than immigration etc. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Bongino said on his February 11 show that Trump “should ignore” an unfavorable court order and, invoking the Batman film "The Dark Knight Rises", suggested that the president “set up a courtroom” in the White House and “just start making judicial decisions.”

NEW: Meta decided to stop working with U.S. fact-checkers at the same time as it’s revamping a program to pay bonuses to creators with high engagement numbers, potentially pouring accelerant on the kind of false posts the company once policed.

Wish I were one of Elon's kids so I'd never see him again

All across the country, civil servants who worked in the federal government for a public good are risking their jobs to pushback against the Trump Administration. Here are some of their stories.

Prior to the passage of the Social Security Act, 85% of elderly Americans had no pension. Fifty-percent died in poverty. Without Social Security, the Center on Budget and policy Priorities estimates 40% of all elderly Americans would die in poverty.

If you're represented by a Republican and you care about the post office, how about flyering outside your local post office. Tell folks about the administration's plan to dismantle USPS and tell them to contact their GOP reps. Include local telephone numbers on the fliers. bsky.app/profile/sylv...

AP could have been cowardly and rolled over for Trump. “We had to comply or we’d lose [funding/access/privileges]” like so many orgs are doing. It would have been easy for them to say “gulf of America” But it never stops there. They got the memo. Good job AP.
