I hope to compose some prog rock in the near future... If not ba-rock, ha-ha. But I am quite alone, I have no band for now. We'll see.

When the clock strikes midnight on January 1, creative works from 1929 & sound recordings from 1924 will enter the public domain in the US, like: ⚓️ Popeye 🕵️ The Maltese Falcon 📖 The Sound and the Fury 🇮🇹 A Farewell to Arms 🏠️ A Room of One's Own 🙌 Hallelujah 🎺 Bolero and many more! 🧵👇

BWV #795 - Sinfonia No.9 F-moll of J.S. Bach - is incredibly chromatic. I don't think it is to be played for a broad circle of listeners in its time - but it sounds incredibly modern. When you learn these rules of counterpoint and have this... It's totally amazing.

It took some time, but finally my first album is available at Spotify: open.spotify.com/album/3jhmex... Or check kasia-ea.github.io for MP3s. I mean, $4 per 1000 streams? That works for popular musicians, but not numerous little ones.

And why is it important to preserve 78s? According to audio archivist George Blood, "To remember half of recorded history, it is important to preserve 78rpm discs." Read the rest of George's essay on 78 preservation: blog.archive.org/2024/08/26/v... 🕳️ #VanishingCulture

Retroarch is intuitive with a gamepad, but so counterintuitive with a keyboard! You can't know back button for Backspace in the emulator, Esc doesn't call emulator menu, but quits it at all! Retroarch shows what to press for OK and Cancel on a gamepad, why can't there be a keyboard tip as well?

One of my big “tech used to be fun” things is that “theme” used to mean like. Making your computer/software’s interface look blue or orange or purple or maybe an imitation of macOS or pixel art or dog-themed. Now it just means “do i have dark mode enabled”

As far as I love logic games, I wonder, how many such games are there for the ZX Spectrum and MSX? And are there "match three" games?

Old Windows icons are very elegant, and I am glad I can download them from github.com/trapd00r/win.... Well, if I need to browse Win98 ones online, I use win98icons.alexmeub.com.

Now I've met some real abstraction layer bullshit. Front app downloads 80 MB of data from backend in order to serve the user 800 KB compressed file (2 MB uncompressed). We were told these libraries could make development faster, but for that price? AND HUNDREDS OF OTHER WEBSITES MAY BE THE SAME D:

Quand j'avais 5 ans, j'ai utilisé Norton Commander, et aujourd'hui, j'utilise FAR Manager! C'est amusant bien sûr...

🎉 Joyeux anniversaire 🎉 Le single de 'You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)' du groupe 'Dead Or Alive' est sorti il y a 40 ans aujourd'hui 🎂

I like to use old computers on daily basis! Or I would like to use?..

I wish it weren't so true! But hey, I met cool youngsters who know the old tech that deep so they can give me a lesson or two! I am totally glad when younger people know the tech deeper than me :)

So PSX emulation has no issues on GPD Win, whereas 3DO emulation has issues. WELP. Not that it's unheard of with a bit more obscure systems.

Electronic music

Purgatory’s suffering souls! Wherever in the world you be: If in flaming tar you roll, Or in an icy river freeze, <...> Come, hasten to our company! — And now come closer, everyone — Tonight we’re celebrating Dziady!

When you're watching YouTube and the first game you worked on pops up...

Periodic reminder that if you have a 32gb WiiU to boot it Since some of them with Hynix chips are currently dying due to not being used #Wiiu #retrogaming

Some time ago I made little pixel icons of 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit computers - at least how these eras felt for me. When we got a tower computer, it probably has been 2002, and there was Windows XP with no thought of 16-bit DOS anymore. Still, I played DOS games pretty fine.

Es gibt keine Marmorskulpturen mehr, die mich wirklich überraschen. Fabio Viale: hold my beer Ja, das ist eine Marmorskulptur des italienischen Bildhauers Fabio Viale

But quite often I feel like this

I am not much an artist, but I do some doodles

Some of the earliest gen art was not visual, but musical; "Musikalisches Würfelspiel" games were so popular in the 1700s, even Mozart wrote one! Guillermo Brachetta has created an online version so even without piano (or dice) you can listen to some of the waltzes Mozart's algorithm creates.

I have reworked the counterpoint in the middle voice, now it sounds the way I like :D Now I can continue onward with the composing.

When Linux becomes your personality 🐧

Ficta adventures. As I mentioned, early music sometimes requires some wit. Here's Jacob van Eyck's "O Heyligh zaligh Bethlehem". I am concerned whether F or F# should be there. For me it sounds like F# could suit better in context of harmonic G minor. Or not?..

I have a long-lasting idea of some retrofuturistic setting like, say, formicapunk, where the tech from 90s has been developed intensively, not extensively. Like Atari Portfolio and similar devices have become quite cheap and popular.

Unicode hasn't provided enough cat emojis yet - well, since people emojis anyway.

I haven't practiced Jacob van Eyck for a while, resorting to improvisation. I mean, playing whatever I think. It's not probably bad, but I feel bad - who's to master those passages then?

I must not forget about musica ficta in older sources. But, it seems, I did.

Some kind of fugue in progress
