Does anyone have transcripts of the 2023 Seattle city council forums about the comprehensive plan? 9/6/23 and 9/7/23. I want to quote Cathy Moore in my email to her. www.theurbanist.org/2023/09/09/v... www.theurbanist.org/2023/09/10/s...

Imagine this at 145th and 5th Ave NE, right next to the new light rail station. City of Seattle already owns the land. But apparently 27 holes of golf is a better use of public land. Jackson Golf Course is so big we could build this *twice* (20,000 new homes) and still have a 40 acre park

Does anyone know the deal with Seattle’s 2/17 Presidents Day protests? So far I’ve seen: -Federal Building 12-2 -Cal Anderson 12-6 -something about Westlake? I want to put up posters but don’t know which location to use

Make America Democracy Again

Can we file an initiative to proclaim August 5th as “Sara Nelson is Amazon’s Lapdog Day.” SNALD for short I’m sure there’s a better (non-libelous) acronym; nominations are open. August seems nice bc we can have block parties.

Take a step back, see what's happening. Trump took office and abruptly gave the richest guy on earth free rein to unmake the US government without any White House oversight or coordination. That guy has been publicly radicalized into an increasingly open white supremacist and conspiracy theorist.

What this whole sorry comp plan episode reveals is that we need to go to #waleg and have them take away the Seattle City Council’s power over zoning and housing. Just setup a Japan-style model with ministerial approval. We won’t solve the housing crisis by letting cities mess around like this.

Coup action item: email your banks and investment (401k) companies. The entire banking/finance community should be freaking out about DOGE teens screwing around in secure Treasury servers. I want them calling their contacts in DC. Here’s what I sent:

Not a good sign that my hopes for the future of our democracy involve a Mormon prophecy, Mitch McConnell, and a programming language invented in 1959.

I just want to underscore this, one more time. The Harrell Admin's growth plan would destroy more trees than the density-forward option that the city studied and set aside. Density is good for trees. That's from the city's own study.

Speaking as a former child shill for school levies: If you’re going to use your kids as political props, please make sure they have the facts right. Building up ⬆️ saves trees (and birds and orcas). Biggest loss in Seattle tree canopy is in parks and green space. Due to climate change.

🚨 ACTION ALERT 🚨 Tomorrow at 10:30am, the House Local Government Committee in #waleg will conduct a public hearing on #HB1299, the companion to the state Senate's fantastic parking reform bill. Log your support: bit.ly/4gplKj4 Submit written testimony: bit.ly/4gqS2KB Testify: bit.ly/3WKy7iA

HISTORICALLY Use of the word “historically” can cause an NSF grant to be killed. Also “systemic”, “biased,” and “barrier” This coup is not only horrifying but also really stupid.

I rage-annotated the latest misleading mailer from Seatte Chamber of Commerce and will be posting in my apartment lobby. Mayor Harrell, I don’t appreciate being lied to.
