How I arrived on Bluesky.

Happy #NationalAnimeDay ! What’s your favorite anime?

A film that takes place where you're from.

I'm much better at writing books than remembering to tell people that I've written a book. So anyway, today the second book in my FORGOTTEN PLANET series drops in stores everywhere. It's called PLUNDERING THE PLANETARY SECRETS, and I'm quite proud of it (even if I have to force myself to say so).

Mugen had a benign mass removed from his back leg. Nothing worrisome, but let me tell you, keeping a rat terrier quiet and calm so he doesn’t pull his stitches is a full time job, even when he’s 13 years old. Just two more days to go.

Life in my house: small Lego sets magically appear on my bookshelves. I have no idea how long this little guy has been there, but he’s pretty cool.

Not remotely the main objection to all of it, but as someone who worked in medical transcription for decades, “scaring of the right ear” is totally something I would’ve been dinged on.

If you are translating or reprinting short stories, please remember to credit the original publication in your anthology, collection, magazine, or podcast. Extra points for including the year of publication.

I get why techbros and their ilk like gen-AI: artists and writers to them are just an obstacle to be bypassed. But I'll never get an author/artist/musician who uses it. "I want to be a writer." No you don't. You fetishize ideas but hate the work. You don't respect the craft or its practitioners.

People are losing the spirit of the Ides of March. It's not about just stabbing. It's about coming together to stab in groups

Here's my favorite bit from my first Baldur's Gate 3 playthru. My party successfully freeing two hostages before the underwater structure we were in flooded but Gale didn't get to my PC Birch in time to dimension door us both to safety. So Wyl did the dialogue for us, and then it cut to this.

My son showed me how to take screenshots on my PS5, and I've gone so nuts with it, you'd think I'd vacationed in Baldur's Gate 3. So. Many. Pictures.

Bonus dog pic. No one is happier that my book finally dropped than Radical Edward.

If you're looking for a good book distraction from *gestures* all this, the second book in my FORGOTTEN PLANET YA scifi series is out today. And it's exclusively at my Shopify store (ebook & print!) for a month so you don't even have to touch Amazon to get it. ratatoskrpressbooks.com/products/plu...

Kate MacLeod's latest story is a novelette informed by climate science and inspired by cold Minnesotan winters. Get to know Kate in this week's author Q&A, where we discuss her beginnings as an author, and the novel she wrote in high school theastoundinganalogcompanion.com/2025/02/20/q...

AOL warned us of the dangers of logging on. It would play for us the screams of the damned. But we didn’t listen. We didn’t listen.

Tell me what’s going on in you WIP right now using only gif

I am unbelievably fond of this movie. It played at the theater I worked at back in the day, so I’ve seen it on the big screen a lot.

Finally I get my Leverage fix! deadline.com/2025/02/leve...

I finished my 1st game of Baldur’s Gate 3 last week (I know, the game came out forever ago), and just started my 2nd. First time around I was a halfling Druid, which I think is the shortest of character options? This time around, I’m a tall tiefling. Like, the tallest character option.

Age yourself with a movie you saw in the theater. (In my defense, I was like 3 at the time. I know I saw Bambi first but that movie left no lasting impression.)

Repost with the first album you bought with your own money.

If you really wanted a Philosopher King, America, he was RIGHT THERE.

Fictional villains: my motivation involves a complex backstory around lost love and a deep yearning to be understood Real life villains: being cruel makes me feel like a big strong man

Kind of wrestling too much with what I’m currently writing, so I took a break to look at a story I owe copy edits on. But that story is one of my favorite things I ever wrote. Probably not advisable to load a story with so many just for me Easter eggs, but I love it so much. Mood very much improved.

It may be twenty below outside, but wearing a sweater and lying in the sun inside is still quite toasty.

It's been a long day of backing up some books. Like, a lot of books. So, so many books. But in case anyone is curious, this is the first book I ever downloaded to my Kindle. (I had something called a Bookman Reader already, so it's not my first ebook ever, though).

It’s like the opening to Star Trek, except instead of picking which star becomes the Enterprise, you pick which darkish lump is going to become Radical Edward. (Also, if you’ve ever played Baldur’s Gate 3, the pitter-patter of Us’s feet always reminds me of Edward in boots.)

The new issue of ANALOG is out. It’s all sci-fi mysteries (my favorite genre), and it includes a novelette from me! I’m so geeked to be in this TOC. Did I mention it’s my favorite genre? www.analogsf.com/current-issu...

Oh, nothing special, just a coyote traipsing through my backyard. This is why the dogs never go out alone.
