Given that the Trump people did nothing to induce Russia to end the war, it’s fair to conclude that the whole idea of pursuing peace was just a pretext to renew relations with Russia.

BREAKING: Two sources tell @theprospect.bsky.social that the acting commissioner of the Social Security Administration has asked for a plan for cuts to 50% of the workforce, including at the 1,200 field offices that serve millions of beneficiaries. prospect.org/health/socia...

Seems like the relevance of this Reagan-era Herblock cartoon has risen by 200%. Washington Post, 12/22/1988.

The Supreme Court blocked a judge’s order to quickly unfreeze payments for foreign aid work.

Oregon’s Rep. Cliff Bentz (OR-2) just voted FOR the GOP budget that will decimate Medicaid: • 36% of constituents in Umatilla Co. • 43% in Klamath Co. • 44% in Josephine Co. • 47% in Malheur Co. • 50% in Jefferson Co. • More than half of Oregon children are insured through Medicaid.

Thought we were attempting to reduce the federal deficit? Instead, Trump’s proposed budget plan is projected to significantly increase it.

NEW: Hampton Dellinger has filed his brief in the Supreme Court opposing the Trump Administration's effort to have him removed in violation of federal law. Visit www.democracydocket.com to stay informed what is happening to democracy in court.

Well, isn’t this just a bunch of lies? The White House moved to clarify Musk’s role within the DOGE after a court filing this morning stated that the tech billionaire is neither an employee nor an administrator of the commission and has “no actual or formal authority to make government decisions.”

Hear hear!

A Missouri Representative has filed a bill to track pregnancies in the state. HB 807 will: "Maintain a central registry of each expectant mother who is at risk for seeking an abortion of her unborn child and make the same available to a prospective adoptive parent who has completed screenings."

Be aware that firing people without thinking about the consequences isn't just stupidity. It's deliberate chaos-making. It's a way of grabbing power.

🚨 BREAKING: Illinois Governor JB Pritzker says he’s going to rename Lake Michigan to “Lake Illinois.” EPIC TRUMP TROLL!!! 🤣

Murphy: "We need to act like a real opposition party in the middle of a constitutional and democracy crisis. That means we should not be moving forward nominees or legislation in the Senate. Ds should not be giving votes to nominee or legislation in the Senate until Rs get serious about this crisis"

Senior U.S. District Judge John Coughenour: “It has become ever more apparent that, to our president the rule of law is but an impediment to his policy goals, the rule of law is, according to him, something to navigate around or simply ignore, whether that be for political or personal gain."

Reports that Musk/DOGE is at the NIH 😬

This WaPo story points out lots of excesses by Musk-bro team. But nowhere does it mention that "Department of Govt Efficiency" *does not exist.* It's pure marketing BS by the Musk-Vought-Trump team. (Hint: "Departments" are created by actual legislation.) www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/...

Barging seems appropriate at this time. www.politico.com/live-updates...

THIS IS AN EMERGENCY, not a regular news story. Where are you @pbsnews.bsky.social , @npr.org, @opb.bsky.social, @theoregonian.bsky.social? www.wired.com/story/elon-m...

Let’s fight capitalism with capitalism. Make it every organization’s problem until we see some action. They have a bigger microphone, let’s make them use it! #goodtrouble

I was just outside the Treasury Department where Elon Musk has launched a full scale authoritarian takeover. My message to Musk is simple: get your hands off our money and get the hell out.

Our representatives are starting to stand up and take action against the takeover of our government by an unelected billionaire and his minions. Watch here, then call your elected representatives (Oregon phone numbers in the comments): www.youtube.com/live/z4h4YVo...

Wyden: "Tell Elon Musk to take his hands off your money!"

Thank you @wyden.senate.gov!💪

I wrote about Musk and this bureaucratic coup as plainly as I could. There's reporting in here & the particulars are overwhelming but what's happening is so clear: He's not trying to run the federal govt like a software company He's trying to turn it into a political weapon. (gift link)

I called Oregon's Senators and Representatives with this message: "I hope that [name] considers the move by Musk to take over a government agency and breach Americans' privacy is a constitutional crisis and illegal, and that Trump and Vance should both be impeached for allowing it to happen."

Arguably the biggest national security breach in U.S. history. Private employees downloading personnel data on every federal employee and tax and social security data on every American onto private unsecured servers. Needless to say, completely illegal and subject to major prison sentences.

Finally, one major news outlet speaks up… www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

What could possibly go wrong?

It’s a coup. That’s what’s happening. It doesn’t matter if it’s only been two weeks. Impeachable offenses aren’t like wine. They don’t need to age.

@wyden.senate.gov

Please, everyone, drop what you’re doing and read this:

It’s official: Elon Musk’s staffers have now illegally obtained classified information from the USAID office. Here’s a recap of what’s happening:

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

The front pages of the @nytimes.com and @washingtonpost.com are MIA on Musk’s seizure of Americans’ private data, the biggest security breach in history. WTF??? nymag.com/intelligence...

A man who has shown himself to be deeply sympathetic to Nazism might now have all of our Social Security numbers. That is a statement that would have seemed like absurd liberal hyperbole a few years ago, but is now just a neutral statement of fact.

This amounts to the most significant data leak in cyber history. Private individuals in the data business now have access to your Social Security information. This violates privacy laws in every state. Hopefully, state AGs will file suit & pursue criminal charges. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/01/u...

YES.

NEW: Sources tell my office that Treasury Secretary Bessent has granted DOGE *full* access to this system. Social Security and Medicare benefits, grants, payments to government contractors, including those that compete directly with Musk's own companies. All of it.
