Interesting story about @helenhayes.bsky.social and SEND from @rhistorer.bsky.social. Also includes the titbit that the SEND inquiry got an impressive 880 submissions. #EDusky

Wonderful to see the first egg laid today by the Peregrines at Worcester Cathedral. The live feed was a joy last year! www.youtube.com/live/mtiyFRe...

Thanks to Michael Sheen for raising the issue of debt + the Fair Banking Act. Fantastic programme - shameful no high street banks would talk to him www.channel4.com/programmes/michael-sheens-secret-million-pound-giveaway

So I’ve recently become a gym person. Guide Dog Ava has embraced this new routine. However she has a habit of staring really judgementally at other people working out (Other Half observed it). It’s like she’s a mean but adorable personal trainer.

"Do I have something in my teeth?" Photo taken in the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary, the first area in Canada to be protected specifically for Grizzly Bears and their habitat. It would be wonderful to see more areas like this protected. #wildlife #conservation

Early Years funding is in crisis and it's going to get worse. Add in the recruitment issues and it really does feel like a house of cards about to collapse. 🧵⏬

'Please take your tail off before going to the toilet' 'I'll hold your ears when you go to the toilet' 'Your wings are too big to fit through the door' Just a typical #worldbookday in pre school! #loveearlyyears

Such a joyful film clip which shows what happens when we follow a child's lead and wait - something we talk a lot about on @elklantraining.bsky.social www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2KU...

I volunteer at Vale Wildlife Hospital and have been horrified by the number of animals coming in who have been caught in football nets. Please remove football nets when not in use. london-post.co.uk/rspca-warns-...

When birds of prey try to nest on or near driven grouse moors , they are never safe . This is the tragic story of a young white-tailed eagle pair . We must ban driven grouse shooting , add your name at petition.parliament.uk/petitions/700036

Here is a link to the BEYTH (Bristol & Beyond Stronger Practice Hub) webinar with @joolone.bsky.social and team on “why playful maths?” It’s free after signing in: beyth.co.uk/2025/02/07/p...

This is shocking on so many levels - but the outsourcing of public duties to private interests…it’s endemic and damaging

My Guide Dog is trained to lie under my legs on public transport. Unfortunately people still try to pet her. By shoving their hand in her face. Dog etiquette 101 leave guide dogs alone & dogs really don’t enjoy a hand right up in their nose & whiskers.

R just described the traffic jam we're stuck in as a "car conga" and this is the best thing she's ever said by some distance.

Little boy in a supermarket (looking at a heart-shaped packet of strawberries): Why are they in a heart? His dad: So they can charge us more for it.

This looks just what the sector has needed for a long time- evidence-informed PLAY

I’m teaming up with Verbo to offer a FREE online webinar on ‘Supporting Students with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)’ at 15:30 on Tues 25 Feb. A helpful intro for #Teachers #Schoolleaders #SENCOs, #Parents, #Carers #TeachingAssistants! Register: verboapp.co.uk/dld-webinar/ #SLCN #DevLangDis

As we head closer to spring, all sorts of wildlife starts to emerge – like hedgehogs! 🦔 Want to do more to help these spiky icons? Learn how in our upcoming webinar w/ Hedgehog Street, a campaign by @ptes-org.bsky.social and @hedgehogsociety.bsky.social Watch live or later 👇 bit.ly/HelpingHedge...

If you think about potential warning signs that a system isn't meeting needs, an increase in exclusions and a decrease in attendance would be two obvious ones to look for. The DfE is not going to be able to increase #inclusion simply by Ofsted-ing it. They have to look at the wider system. #EduSky

Hedgehog numbers have declined by 30% in the last 10 years. Help them by creating ‘hedgehog highways’. Hedgehogs travel up to two miles every night, in search of food & a mate – so holes in the bases of fences & walls give them room to roam! More ideas for creating wildlife habitats: bit.ly/4jGzo4f

This makes for a difficult listen but is so important, the brilliant @ellychapple.bsky.social and myself on The Skies We're Under podcast talking about Ella's human rights claim and the impact of unlawful care proceedings on their family open.spotify.com/episode/2rRf...

Absolutely. Potentially the annual health check saved my autistic son’s life due to dangerously (and previously undiagnosed) high blood pressure. Please think again @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social

The Dfe has published new guidance on SEND for school governing boards. It's short, but comes with a useful #SEND checklist https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/sen-and-disability-duties-guidance-for-school-governing-boards/special-educational-needs-sen-and-disabilities-guidance-for-school-go…

"Based on current greenhouse gas emissions, polar bears in the southern Arctic regions will likely cease to exist if the presence of sea ice continues to wane .." 😢

There's so much wrong with this Guardian article shared by Stephen Morgan (early years minister) that it's hard to know where to start but I'll put some thoughts in the thread below. www.theguardian.com/education/20...

Just wonderful - giving people a choice of music and having fun! My mother in law hated the music played in her nursing home - "bloody Vera Lynn again!"

For me #inclusion has to mean responding to the needs of the children who actually attend your setting, rather than the demands of external pressures. The child is not for the setting; the setting is for the child. #EduSky

A key challenge in the quest to make schools more inclusive is a recognition of how accountability frameworks can corrupt leaders. As Gert Biesta says, when a child becomes a liability for their school’s performance education is at an end.

Is #FloofyFriday a thing? If not, can we make it one? #wildlife #birds #owls

Been working with teens excluded from school. All have #SEND (most commonly ASD/ADHD/DLD) but were either diagnosed too late or not even assessed until after they were excluded. It’s heartbreaking ‘81% of children with behavioural disorders have significant language difficulties’

Did you know we have our own podcast? Covering everything from disability benefits, special education, health & diagnosis, and accessing social care. You can find us on Apple Podcasts/iTunes, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Overcast, Pocket Casts, etc. Find out more here: contact.org.uk/help-for-fam...

Great question! Also, do staff have time to share books (child's choice) in small groups + individually? #edusky

Little girl (to me) on my way home: Excuse me. Me: Yes? Little girl: I mean you need to say, 'Excuse me.' Me: I do? Little girl: Yes. Because you stepped on my shadow. Me: Oh! Excuse me. Little girl: Thank you. It's okay, she's fine.

Does anyone has a photo of a platform lift or access door with a sign reading something like "go to reception for assistance" or "ring for assistance"? I would like to use an image like this with credit for some customer service training.
