Still thinking about the 5 page memo about what Democrats will do that contained 5 pages of descriptions of what Trump has done and 0 commitments or actions.

Just saw a thread about a guy calling into cspan saying his diabetic supplies increased from 5 dollars to 80 dollars and somebody in the comments, probably multiple people but I stopped reading, replied “FAFO” and I can’t stress enough how much you need to stop doing that shit

This is horrific "The Immigration and Customs Enforcement memo outlines an unprecedented push to target migrant children who crossed the border illegally as unaccompanied minors." www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...

The SAVE Act is specifically designed to disenfranchise a ton of American women. Let us recall how many of the techbros now infiltrating the American government, like Peter Thiel, believe that women shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

Obviously far from the biggest indignity but every federal worker getting blasted a Saturday night “defend your paycheck” email from the world’s most annoying drug addict is such a pain in the ass

I don't even know what to say. So much vital, lifesaving research has come from this data.

In which I argue that sticking to the familiar territory of budget negotiation advocacy isn't going to cut it when Congress has ceded its appropriations authority. katiealbitz.substack.com/p/if-they-wa...

It's been 45 years of calling the federal govt wasteful and during that time period people had very little grasp of what the federal govt does or that message originates from businesses that want to get away with under paying people and selling and releasing poison

I wrote about what it's going to take to defend our nation's meager early childhood institutions in the face of an authoritarian power grab. katiealbitz.substack.com/p/if-they-wa...

I got them.

New York has been having a real main-character moment lately 🫠 so even as we organize and build power here at home during the legislative session, we’re keeping our eyes—and the pressure—on our federal government. Stay in the loop with our Democracy Watch newsletter →

Just learned the worst Margaritaville in the country closed. Sad we couldn't enjoy its cursed dead mall vibes one last time.

Republican plan for you: 1. Buy a home at age 56 2. Die at 70 3. Retire at 72

Oh my god this is so embarrassing.

Trump wants to spend up to $50 billion a year on yet another “Star Wars” missile fantasy, even though the current system does not work and never will, after 40 years and 400 billion wasted. This Fantasyland scheme is a massive defense contractor boondoggle. www.usatoday.com/story/news/p...

Among those Trump and Musk fired at the FAA: - Lawyers who help keep drunk or reckless pilots out of the skies - Air traffic control support staff - Employees who track potential new flying hazards like cranes - Staffers who medically clear pilots to fly www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

Teachers teach. We need a leaderful movement, and there are leaders all around us.

Senate Republicans just *BLOCKED* Sen. Ossoff’s amendment to protect children’s and maternal health care through Medicaid.

When lawmakers roll back child labor protections, violations skyrocket—because corporations will always put profits over people. This is why WE matter. Workers fighting together protect our rights, our safety, and our kids from exploitation. seiu.co/4i5QKpB

Vote-a-rama update: Chuck Schumer offered an amendment to the Republican budget resolution to prohibit tax cuts for the wealthy if even $1 is cut from Medicaid. It was rejected 49-51. Democrats unanimously voted YES, joined by Collins and Hawley. Other Republicans voted NO.

They do not want women to work and they want to blame women who work while they are pregnant if something happens to their health or the health of their baby.

It's going to take millions of people having dumbass, selfish revelations like this to defeat Trump and it's only gonna get less and less sympathetic and more necessary the longer this goes on.

As teacher shortages have become more severe in early learning settings since the pandemic, previous workarounds to staffing holes have become less reliable. From @edsurge.com:

Frankly you could do a whole podcast series over the next four years with fired public servants as a human interest story—both the personal ramifications and what the loss to society is, as a way of familiarizing Americans with what their government does for them.

"The United States Postal Service shall be operated as a basic and fundamental service provided to the people by the Government of the United States, authorized by the Constitution, created by Act of Congress, and supported by the people"

People will die without the prescriptions they receive in the mail.

Here in Illinois, ten years ago we saw the consequences of a rampant ideological gutting of government. It genuinely harmed people. Our citizens hated it. Trust me – I was elected based in part on just how much they hated it.

I gotta admit, I'm starting to worry that the people who think that a former president criticizing the current president's attempt to dismantle democracy is beyond the pale of acceptable behavior aren't going to have the willpower to rebuild American state capacity and institutional legitimacy.

In 2024, the NLRB filed a complaint against Tesla for interfering in a union drive at their Buffalo, NY assembly plant. Today:

New: DOGE's spending has been secret. No longer. My colleagues have uncovered it. www.propublica.org/article/doge...

You know I committed to a cutesy retro aesthetic for my child care newsletter's graphics and it turns out the VAST majority of what I write about is white supremacy and fascism. Like posting this cute little book or an apple on a skateboard is a bit jarring at the end of most of my stuff.

People do not understand the deal they get per dollar with government services and apparently will sell it for the cost of a week of child care or a week or two of groceries.

Fun fact: Kathy Hochul is doing exactly this by touting her proposal for "inflation rebate checks" to impose austerity in the state budget RIGHT NOW and people are buying it for a mere $300.

I would do anything I could to fight against this man becoming the nominee jsyk.

Jesus Christ this is the best we can get? Mr “All Lives Matter” mayor? The same man who fired the first Black police chief because he got recordings of racist insubordination and sabotage the “wrong” way? The guy who claims to know multiple languages but can’t understand white supremacy? Pass.

“You should do something.” “Nah, I think I’ll start a committee that oversees a task force to create a coalition that might do something in 2032, but probably not.”

And thus ends my approximately 18 hours of being impressed by Gov. Hochul's bravery. It was nice while it lasted!

Took 20 days to get a form response from Gillibrand re: birthright citizenship and her votes for Trump's nominees. In her response about his nominees, she STILL does not commit to voting against them.
