Added to the website from last half term: ✨Forming and solving equations crack the code Provided plenty of challenge for Year 9 mathematicians... and hopefully of use to anyone teaching this any time soon. Find it at www.draustinmaths.com/algebra #MathsToday #UKMathsChat

youtu.be/MYoKDS6hsKk?... Slightly obsessed with these videos 😆

NEW: I spent a lot of yesterday making an angle generator for the MathsBot curriculum. Seems a shame not to reuse the code, so I just made this. mathsbot.com/tools/angles

Great for GCSE Statistics as well.

🚨Today, the Education Policy Institute, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, has published a new report on Identifying SEND. The report provides evidence of the inequalities that exist in SEND support across schools in England. Read the full report 👉 epi.org.uk/wp-content/u... Main findings👇

I am super proud of these resources for maths teachers showcasing a diverse range of mathematicians & linking their work to the curriculum. They're a real team effort & new ones were added today to celebrate LGBT+ History Month. More to come soon 😁 #MathsToday #AMSP amsp.org.uk/resource/9f7...

‘Even though special schools and AP are bursting at the seams, government ministers appear happy to leave that problem to worsen’: @warrencarratt.bsky.social fears what the mainstream inclusion drive will mean for special schools

Current waiting times to get an assessment for adhd and autism in my local nhs range from 3 to in excess of 8 years. Something desperately needs to change. www.sheffieldchildrens.nhs.uk/services/chi...

Students learn faster when they see what something is and what it isn’t. One of the most important aspect of curriculum planning + instructional design is effectively using examples and non-examples. 🧵⬇️

I split all the GCSE Maths past papers into odd and even numbers making the perfect 45min homework paper. Then I filmed a tutorial vid for each, linked it with a QR code on the front of each paper & listed the Sparx codes for each question. They’re free and you can download them here: bit.ly/4jyYz8C

Been working with teens excluded from school. All have #SEND (most commonly ASD/ADHD/DLD) but were either diagnosed too late or not even assessed until after they were excluded. It’s heartbreaking ‘81% of children with behavioural disorders have significant language difficulties’

Continuing with circles in Year 9 and we've moved on to area and perimeter of sectors. Some new resources created for last week's lessons: ✨Area of a Sector Crack the Code ✨Arc Length and Perimeter of a Sector Odd One Out #MathsToday #UKMathsChat Find them at www.draustinmaths.com/perimeter-and-area

Nothing about this looks sensible or sustainable. Agree with @andrewoneill.bsky.social that the private / state disparity warrants a closer investigation. www.thetimes.com/article/7233...

Had a great discussion in our department CPD about the link between student oracy, mathematical communication and understanding. How do you ensure students know which expression you mean when you are explaining? How do you explicitly teach them to talk about their maths? #MathsToday #iteachmaths

You haven't finished the topic of indices until you have launched Dr Tim's Indices Challenge upon your unsuspecting students. It's a classic! https://buff.ly/4hcZvO8 #mathsresources #mathschat #mathstoday #mathchat

#mathstoday Love some of the ncetm checkpoints, so good! Going to trial looking at some in our department meetings before we teach it. First up…perimeter.

Your regular reminder from a very smug deputy head that our first GCSE and A Level cohorts to go through their Key Stages with no target grades got their results last summer and they were some of our best ever as a school. Maybe you're worried unnecessarily about the risk of putting them in the bin.

I'm not sure how you might use Maths trivia in the classroom but nevertheless my collection has grown to 112 items and you are welcome to cherry pick. Share your fascination in the wonders of mathematics with your students. https://buff.ly/40qP9Vb #mathsresources #mathschat #mathstoday #mathchat

Snow day today so will be seeing our pupils for the start of term tomorrow. I don’t ask how their Christmas/holidays have been as for some it may not have been great. Instead I will say something along the lines of “Welcome back, it’s so lovely to see you.” and do some one to one check ins.

First post on here, so thought I'd share something I wrote a while back. A workbook for constructions and loci. It aims to solve a few common problems:

With the start of a new year, I thought it might be a good idea to make a thread to share the resources on Corbettmaths and how they will be incredibly useful for students (and their teachers) preparing for exams in 2025 🧵

It was an honour and privilege to be asked to give the Gresham History of Maths lecture in October. My topic - Shakespeare's Mathematical Life and Times. You can watch an edited version with beautifully enhanced graphics here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuIx...

I play a lot of board games and card games at my current school. You can learn so much from kids from how they interact and play a game.

#mathstoday No maths today as it was our Christmas Fayre so I spent the day on our tomobola stall talking to present and ex pupils and their families. Great day 🎄 A lovely colleague has also bought me this book as a Xmas gift which I can’t wait to get started on. Such a thoughtful present.

In #mathstoday I used mathsbot festive simultaneous equations. Then exam practice for one class who have an external exam in January. Last lesson for them and great focus. Then used the hidato Christmas tree puzzles, never tried them before and loved it 🎄 Thank you @mathequalslove.bsky.social!

Perfect timing for for one of my classes tomorrow. Thanks!

Really enjoyed listening to this. Looking forward to the next episode.

Love this (from the Literary Review):

On Monday afternoon it’s my tlr time. From this year I’ve been able to work from home, it’s hard to explain just how much more beneficial this has been. I know primary teachers often get this but it’s often unheard of in secondary. If you can do it, do it!
