So proud of my Reno people!

And this, my friends, appears the holy trinity of US media prepared to stand up to intimidation.

Remember the good ol' days when they only people attacking NOAA had fallen for a mermaid conspiracy theory from Animal Planet?

I just called my congressperson and senators for the first time ever. Added them to my contacts so I can do it often! Big thanks to 5calls.org.

Also I don't know who needs to hear this, but GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS ARE SUPPOSED TO OPERATE AT A LOSS. THAT'S WHY THEY'RE GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS. WE ALL PAY IN. GOVERNMENT DOES THINGS THAT AREN'T PROFITABLE BUT THAT WE NEED. LIKE MAIL. AND ROADS. AND MAKING SURE AIRPLANES DONT LAND UPSIDE DOWN YOU MORONS

I give H1N1 0/5 stars. Do not recommend.

So we're going to test this "frog staying in water while it boils" theory, I guess.

Soooooooo uhhhh how's e'erybody doinnnnn

I admittedly gasped regarding the truth behind this. 😢

Now when I see even slightly good news, rather than sigh with relief, I expect something even worse to happen. apnews.com/article/dona...

This is such great news. For so long Amazon has had a chokehold on ebooks. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/28/b...

This is real bad. 🧪 www.vox.com/future-perfe...

What news do you plan to consume for the next four years? I'm trying to decide what outlet(s) will keep me informed and make sense of what is happening. Last time around I stuck to NPR and tried to look away from the constant stream of news reactions on social media. Tell me what you plan to do!

My latest for @the-revelator.bsky.social : I spoke to experts about some of the most threatened species in US waters, the threats they face, the policy solutions they need to recover, and why the second Trump administration is likely to be a disaster for them. Please read and share. 🧪🦑🌎

I'm scared and horrified, but I'm also focusing on how much I love all the voices here on BlueSky and am eager to support the community here for the next four years and beyond.

I'm so tired of tech billionaires. Remind me when they're all moving to Mars?

Nearly done with my first week of full-time self-employed consulting and freelancing and whatnot. This change feels super weird right now, but I think it might suit me.

There should be a "Good Twitter" Bluesky account...

Someone sent me a Notebook LM podcast generated from a link to a scholarly journal about communicating basic science. It's so so so so so weird. There's such weird AI banter between the AI people... and I just... feel gross. I could only bear about 30 seconds of it.

Hermit crab and snail.

YOU GUYS. I just got YELLOW PAGES in the mail. I love that we're still doing this for some reason.

Hey! My book Everyday Amazing makes a great gift! Perfect for ages 12-99! www.simonandschuster.com/books/Everyd...

I applied to my 70th job this morning in the last two months. This is exhausting! Part of me wonders if it's finally time to go solo - start doing Beatrice comics again, freelance for nonprofits, work with professors on their presentations and create graphics, etc.

Maybe I should do comics again.

GOOD NEWS! I found my fossil collection. I was afraid it had gotten lost during a big move!

After a soul-crushing week, I'm off to my first mammogram. Might as well crush the boobies too.

I tell ya what, I am SO glad we haven't gotten to some transhumanist distopia yet where people's consciousnesses can live on indefinitely. At least when awful people die, they will be gone forever. Something to look forward to.

So, how's everyone doing over here?

Big news! I got a nonsensical email asking me to be a reviewer for a predatory and/or totally fake journal! I'm so honored.

I booked plane tickets to Texas, a place I have never dared venture, for April 8. So excited to be in the path of totality for the first time in my life!
