the thing I hate most about that rfk quote is that autistic lives have value and worth and beauty and dignity whether they are able to do the things other people do or not. no one is defined by ability or lack thereof and to frame divergence as lack is monster stuff, utterly godless

If Kristi Noem can go down to El Salvador and take concentration camp selfies, then DOJ can figure out where Abrego Garcia is. Just start jailing people for contempt of court until they find out.

How much do you think it costs to make a pair of Nike shoes in Asia? Before you open this thread, take a guess. Settle on a number and then compare it to what you'll learn in this thread. 🧵

A great way to radicalize a bunch of young people is to mass deport some of their friends and classmates for daring to get an education here.

People learn nothing. Arendt wrote so clearly about the increasing targetting of people, starting with non-nationals, then dual nationals, then a succession of undesirable nationals. Nothing will protect you. Fascism requires an ever larger circle of enemies to blame for its own failings.

My entire back and forth with Donald Trump's nominee to run NASA but I zoom in 75% every time he says the "President of the United States". youtu.be/hzkMozksb7Q

After Trump was elected the first time, there was also a lot of talk about making iPhones in the US. At the time, I co-edited the sci-fi outlet Terraform, and asked @timmaughan.bsky.social to imagine what such a future might really look like. With his permission, I'm republishing the story in full:

He's trying to shoot the moon, you gotta respect it

What kind of brain problem makes you think that on the whole, Vietnam has fucked over the United States

I do think it's worth marking and remembering that these people were willing to tolerate everything we've experienced since January and more provided it didn't disrupt the economy.

Hello! We are a scrappy three-year-old civics blog based in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, NC. We just updated thegriffinlist.com, which contains detailed instructions for 65,000 NC voters whose votes might be thrown out in the state Supreme Court race. Please share!

you, a rube: “i want my kid to grow up to be a doctor or an engineer or a teacher” lutnick, a genius: “to make america great again your child will make iphones that they will not be able to afford”

I explained it to several young teens today: imagine we wanted you to become more self-sufficient in the kitchen, so we decided to charge you $20 every time you got takeout. But also we have no food in the house, we won't let you go to the store, and also you don't know how to cook.

Hi, hello. In order to grasp the significance of Trump crowning himself a King, you have to understand that he is literally carrying out a plan crafted by Curtis Yarvin, a right wing extremist, to overthrow democracy and replace it with dictatorial rule by a monarch-CEO.

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive. No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief. 1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

one thing that I think is actually good about elon is that he is too unsophisticated to do this sort of thing in private like a normal billionaire so everyone gets to see the rank corruption of our system all out in the open. in this way his social ineptitude is actually very helpful

Wow a boon for domestic fentanyl production and distro. Happy for them.

When you find yourself basically going "blah blah blah why are you talking so much about innocent guy sent to a gulag, get over it," your sense of humanity has been fundamentally broken and you've lost the plot. Either we are a nation of laws or we are not.

At this point I'm just assuming virtually every foreign student in the US who isn't deported is going to transfer to a school in another country to be safe. Which means those countries are going to have a bunch of doctors, engineers, etc. in another decade. Ours, not so much.

If you are punching down, if you are punching sideways, if you are wagging your fist about shit that doesn't impact you in the slightest, you are their perfect sucka. Wake yo' dumb ass up. Wake yo' dumb ass momma up too.

Oh my God. The email contains an implied threat that any student who doesn’t immediately leave might be sent to El Salvador. /technically it says “countries other than their countries of origin,” but the context right now, given everything going on, makes the threat clear.

Hundreds of international students have just received an email telling them their visas have been revoked. The ‘justification’ is campus activism or social media posts. timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/us/hun...

You bragged that you fed an aid agency keeping millions of the world’s most vulnerable people alive “into the wood chipper” and you’re whinging about someone dunking on your stock price?

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

“I insist on being shocked. I am never going to become immune. I think that’s a kind of failure to see so much of it that you die inside. I want to be surprised and shocked every time.” ― Toni Morrison

The Signal leak is a prime moment for Democrats to get caught trying. Call for resignations or impeachment hearings or both. Be omnipresent in the media demanding and explaining accountability measures. Don’t let this fade away. Treat this the way the GOP treated Hillary’s emails. Make it a thing.

The biggest takeaway from "Chernobyl" was how beautiful the Russian countryside is in winter.

What you have to understand about Pete Hegseth copying and pasting war plans into Signal is that it almost certainly means he’s got classified documents on his personal UNSECURE devices. Signal isn't on a secure device...are our war plans on his personal devices? @jeffreygoldberg.bsky.social

I have no patience for this temporizing. People are being summarily shipped off into slavery in central america under the imprimatur of the US government right now. Canada—Canada!—is putting itself on a war footing. We’ve been off the map and in uncharted territory for the last 250 miles.

Horrifying what is being done to these men and women in our name.

The President has ignored Congressional appropriations, closed Congressionally-created agencies, and is grabbing people off the street without any judicial process and sending them to a foreign labor camp while boasting that he won't follow a court order telling him to stop. I think we're there.

in slightly-early honour of St Patricks Day, I will once again remind the world of the time Amazon united Ireland (and apologized for the Troubles), still one of my favourite moments on twitter

Scientists have just cured pancreatic cancer in some patients with personalized mRNA vaccines. Pancreatic cancer. And this Trump administration wants to throw it all away. They’re throwing away a cure for cancer.

Rough day for the it’s-not-a-constitutional-crisis-until-he-defies-a-court-order crowd.
