I've spent a lot of time thinking about the increase in subscriptions to all facets of our lives, especially when it comes to online dating: open.substack.com/pub/lovebyte...

Not to mention the erosion of peer review for getting research published in anything remotely close to a timely manner:

Just in time for Valentine's Day, I've (finally!) started a Substack to share all of my online dating, sexting, and social media musings 💕 open.substack.com/pub/lovebyte...

In my years of covering internet culture I’ve always tried to impress upon people that social media algorithms + audiences actively incentivize and reward behavior and people that are almost comically evil and stupid. Anyways now that culture is running the country

Hi all, I'm a WIRED journalist on the science desk. If you're a government scientist or federally funded researcher with info to share about the Trump transition, please feel free to contact me securely on Signal: emullin.06

What's so impressive to me about Wired's handling of the Doge developments is how they have absolutely everyone on staff involved. Feels like every single new development I see there is a different byline.

No one is reporting like @wired.com in this moment, so I purchased a subscription so they can keep doing work like this:

✨New research: An exploratory analysis of how text network analysis can be used to analyze conversations between online-first chat partners. TLDR: Lots of positively valenced words in very little time! www.tandfonline.com/eprint/IS7YD...

Seems like U.S. government’s genius plan to stop Chinese influence over its populace has resulted in the populace downloading Chinese apps en masse out of loyalty to China

very curious to see how Golden Globes conversations are on here tonight 👀

Twin Peaks or Buffy ✨

...and getting inspiration for some spring 2025 projects, too :)

My treat for finishing grading 😌 @kait.bsky.social

Another great weekend in New Orleans for the National Communication Association’s annual convention—and yes, I did indeed find a vampire speakeasy 🦇

For those who will still be at NCA #commsky tomorrow morning (11/24), I'll be presenting one of my very favorite projects I've done yet--an exploration of compulsive social media behaviors and parasocial relationships in true crime contexts. Bright & early at 8 am Sunday!

Hyped for @katycoduto.bsky.social to present our work on how interrelationships between affordances are shaped by channel competence 🤹‍♂️ and explain sexting outcomes 😉 at #nca24 (on a STACKED panel on Thursday at 4 in Nottoway). It was born at #nca23, so it's coming full circle!

Perhaps I’m at the airport too early in the morning, but here’s what my brain has accomplished so far:

Hi #commsky friends -- if you're a member of HCTD at NCA, a reminder that we're seeking nominations for leadership and committees:

do we really have to call them skeets

I recently did a Reddit AMA on all things online dating, social media, and sexting. The summary is now available--and of course, I'm always happy to answer more questions 🥰

oh we're really doing it!

Very appreciative of starter packs--it's so nice to find so many new and familiar friends!

I suppose I need to re-engage here, so 👋

Hi! If you or someone you know has a decent-sized social media following (min. of 1,000 followers on a given channel), could you take and/or share this survey? bostonu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...
